Current Law Students / Decent but not great grades at a T14...
« on: January 30, 2007, 08:42:33 PM »
I go to Michigan. Pulled off a 3.43 this semester. Class curve is 3.19.

This is not meant to be a show-offy thread. I honestly expected around a 3.0 this semester, and prepared myself for this and set my goals and expectations for employment (including summer employment) around this.

So I'm a bit in the dark as to what this means... are these grades good enough for a summer position at a firm? What should my expectations for employment be (assuming I do similarly this semester?)

This might seem weird but I honestly thought I was one of the dumbest kids in my class before grades came in.. so I don't know exactly what my scores mean.

Incoming 1Ls / First day reading?

On average, how much to expect?

Hey. My summer internship is dragging. This board helped me a lot last summer so I'm returning the favor. I'm no expert, but I'm another set of eyes. Although, I have read all the books and read dozens of statements.

The PS is by far the most frustrating aspect of the law school application. In some ways, I pity you and am glad I'm not staring it down again ( ;D).

So, send me your PS. I'll read them and turn them back until I get too bored proofreading.

Choosing the Right Law School / The two GPA's deal.

So you've got your degree summary GPA and your cumulative GPA on your LSAC report. I'm sure you get indexed by your cumulative only, correct?

Alright, I'll PayPal $5 to the person who most closely predicts all my decisions. In the case of a tiebreaker, I'll PayPal it to the person within the "tied" group with the worst cycle (at my discretion; this should help ease the pain.)

You can see my stats and stuff on my LSN profile. My EC's and WE are painfully average. My LOR's are good, PS is pretty good. And I'm a Michigan resident, no URM, political science major, white, coming straight from UMich, transferred in college, strong upward grade trend (I'll be graduating from UMich with a near 4.0; right now my in-house GPA is a 3.97).

And here's the template:

American - Accepted (EVERYONE GETS A FREEBIE!)
Boston U -
UC-Berkeley -
Cornell -
Duke -
George Washington -
Georgetown -
Michigan -
Notre Dame -

(by the way, I'm probably lying about the $5. hahahahahahahaha)

I put 48101 on my common information form on LSDAS instead of 48104.

So I guess I'm emailing all my law schools then, huh? My current address is only good until Wednesday. Should I even bother?

Won't most post offices mail it to me here anyway despite the 1 digit error? My city still says Ann Arbor.

Law School Admissions / Should I write an addendum?

On my resume, I stated that I will be "working in D.C." next semester. I was unsure of the experience I would have in D.C., but have since found out what it will be.

I will be working at the American Enterprise Institute helping to create an international environmental index that will compare differing nations around the world. I will be a research assistant on this position. I will also be taking 12 credits and writing a 30-page thesis on my experience at AEI.

I know this probably would be most useful to add after I finish the assignment/job, but was wondering what you guys would do. It's a pretty interesting experience that I will have under my belt when I get to law school.

Goodness. Talk about most time-consuming extracurricular, especially when their family is pyschotic and they live an hour away at another school you commute to twice a week.

Plus, this shows you've got people skills, right? And time management? Arguing ability? Ability to deal with annoyances and work under harsh conditions?

..... Stamina? ....

Here's a nice light-hearted thread for your dudes. Let's not all go off the deep end with our paranoia.

Law School Admissions / ARGH... so annoyed.

So, I can't really apply into my LOR's get in b/c a lot of schools will consider my app complete with the 1 LOR I have in currently.

I want to get these things in so bad. 2 LOR's are in the mail, 1 of which was mailed up to 3 weeks ago. I am so sick of these things kicking around.

Law School Admissions / Header on PS?

Did you put a general header on your PS?

Name, SSN, LSAC #, etc?
