2L job search / How to follow up?
« on: November 14, 2007, 11:16:39 PM »
So I got my offer and accepted way back in early October for a pretty large firm in NJ. On about the 14th of Oct., they said to expect a letter in about two weeks with all the specs and what not, but it has been over a month and I have not heard anything. I was thinking of sending an email to the recruitment director, however, I bothered her so much during the acceptance phase I could definitely get the hint that she may be getting annoyed...

so what is the best way to follow up with the firm and ask what the deal is. I really don't want to sound pushy, so any etiquette tips would be appreciated. Should I just wait it out? send an email? what should I say?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

General Board / B.A. (corporations) and Tax Supplements!
« on: November 03, 2007, 01:41:23 AM »
Hey Guys,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good study good for Business Associations (aka Corporations). With all the job searching, and journal work, I kinda breezed through the class and feel like I really don't know anything haha. If anyone could recommend some good supplements or good strategies to attack the class I would be appreciative.

Also, while I am here, does anyone have any recommendations for a Federal Income Taxation supplement?

Thanks in advance everyone!

- Mike

100 hundred dollars in school loans? thats awesome haha

but seriously, we would really need to know what area you are in as well as the competition in that area... do you have any inclination to transfer?

General Board / Re: Which Lenovo Laptop?

I appreciate everyone's input so far. I am starting to agree that the tablet while pretty cool in it's design and concept, will probably not be that useful at all. I am starting at William Mitchell in St. Paul.

ahh ok, reason I asked is that you had NJ in your name and SHU offers the three laptops u mentioned for a discounted rate and recommends them for 1Ls... but i guess a lot of schools do this

dont get a tablet, they are pointless, get the t61 15 inch... the bigger the screen the better when studying your notes on the computer, and a tablet is really a novelty that will easily fade over time... what school are you starting at? would it happen to be seton hall?

General Board / Quick Procedural Question re: Ranking
« on: June 18, 2007, 01:45:47 PM »
This is probably a "use your best judgment" call, but I was curious as to what everyone else was placing on their resume...

For top 25% do you guys put "Top 1/4" or "Top 25%" on your resume? Do you include the actual numbers i.e. xx/xxx.

Id appreciate any helpful feedback. Thanks.

roygbiv,

thanks for the advice! that is a good idea, and you are right, rank would definitely help me better gauge the situation. It takes forever to get the rankings from my school however, so I won't know that for a while.

Where can I find a list of recent SHU-Alumni and what respective firms they beling to? I know career services may have them, but they are not usually the most helpful bunch. I will try to look into the amount of offers accepted last year and what GPA correlates to them, but I have a feeling it may not be very easy to discover that information.

Anyway thanks for the response i def appreciate it!

Thanks for all the input so far... i was just worried there was some sort of "unspoken" cut-off for moderate to large firms in NJ. I am going to attempt to use my connections as far as they can get, because as many mentioned, that is unfortunately how the world works. I just posted the topic to see how far they may take me and if the other factors would negate whatever connections I may have...

anyway, tortfeasor, where are you interning right now? State or Fed court? how do you like seton hall? are u going to be a 2L next year at seton hall?

you may be mistaking "insecurity" for realism... the job market, especially in the tri-state area, is one of the most cut-throat in the nation. I am asking for rational projections and/or real-life experiences.

I am not insecure about my grades or chances at all, in fact I feel I am very lucky and am very grateful for them. I am merely trying to research and gauge my upcoming possibilities for my future.

But thanks for the helpful response.
