I was obviously referring to the first year.  Yes, I would like to continue past that...

Just stumbled upon this LSD a couple weeks ago...I'll be at CWSL this fall as well.

I'm a mid-westerner as well, Kansas City, and did my UG at Chico State in N. Cal.  Lived in San Francisco for a while, then Lake Tahoe, and I'm back in K.C. now before making the move out to San Diego in early August.

Not gonna lie, CW was not my first choice.  Ideally, I've been looking at Southwestern in L.A. for a couple years now.  Got accepted in '03, decided I "wasn't ready" yet, then WLed the last two years.  Still on the waitlist, along with the other 2000 people, and assuming I'm not coming off of it in a feasible amount of time.

Anyway, I'm excited about San Diego.  Not many better places in the country to study for a few years.  I've been a little dejected after reading about a lot of the negative opinions of CWSL/lower-tiered schools on here and other boards, but hey, we can't all go to top 20 schools.  I thoroughly "enjoyed" my UG days, hard not to in Chico, CA.

So, I'm interested in hearing from others heading in the same direction.  I plan on studying my ass off, while also enjoying life in S.D., and hope to find others with the same mentality.  Yea, it's gonna be tough, Tier 4 or not, but what the hell, it's only 60 grand....

Just a quick follow up so no one replies with an answer...

I talked to SW and my fin. aif package is done.  Their loan offers do not add up to as much as CWSL...just another thing to consider...

Only a couple thousand, but still $...

So, here I am.  I've read NUMEROUS posts on Internet boards trashing both schools.  In actuality, I've read a ton of posts trashing any school not in the 1st tier.  However, this is the decision I am faced with.  My GPA, score, etc., are what they are, and are not going to change over the next 48 hours.

My focus/strategy for law school is Entertainment Law.  It is what I set out to do when I received my bachelor's, and is what has led me to this point.  I have thought from day one that Southwestern had the premier CURRICULUM for Ent. Law, but am hesitant because of so many negative reviews from people (most competitive, decreasing reputation, bad part of town, 4th preference for firms in L.A., etc., etc.).

I was accepted at Southwestern 2 years ago, WL, rejected last year, and then WL, accepted TODAY, this year.  So, up until this morning, I had planned on attending Cal Western in San Diego.  I have a flight booked on Sunday, three hotel nights, financial aid set up, etc.

I absolutely love the idea of studying in San Diego.  Who wouldn't?  That's a gimme.  However, I have to be real, and remind myself that I am not going to school for the climate/social atmosphere/"laid back" environment.

Is there a choice here at all?  Mainly, I needed to get this in writing to organize my thoughts.  But I would love any advice, suggestions, or experiences you have to share.

Can I call Cal Western and ask for money?  How quickly will Southwestern get me a financial aid package set up?

*&^%.

Thanks.

Dell is just so cheap... hard to pass up.

That's where I'm at...

A couple weeks ago I was reading PLS, and considering it's rather cynical view, it gave me a couple of law school related dreams.

Both in the same night...

First one, my mom is driving me to school, let me clarify, to LAW school, and I've got my backpack, sack lunch, and everything.  She drops me off at the front door and I go into a classroom where everyone is reading the same book during a lecture.  Of course, I forgot to buy my books, so I turn and walk out.

Other one was probably common: I walk into a classroom with a female professor, and I'm the last one in...every head turns to look at me.  I find a nearby seat and keep to myself.

Nothing too crazy, but still glad to wake up and know there's two months of freedom.

Thanks - I think that means I'd be fine with the 600m.

If that's the one with the 12" display I'd be wary.  I wouldn't recommend anything with less than a 14" screen.

600m has the 14"

700m has the 12"

I think we just posted at the same time.  I noticed you were into gaming and what-not...do you think the 12 v 14 is significant for someone not interested in gaming.  My main concern is loss of quality on the adult sites...gonna be a long way from home for school.

Kidding...

dell x1 > 700m

What's the "x1"?

Thanks for all the replies by the way...

I'm definitely leaning towards the 700m right now.  Just seems like it's speed, memory capacity, firewire port, weight, and the optic drive outweigh other similar comps.  Like the 600m, and even that IBM x40 or whatever it is.  I could easily be wrong, but this is just what I've gathered from researching on the 'net, i.e. C-Net and like sites.

STILL, I'm worried about the small keyboard and 12' screen.  Anyone have a 12" screen and flat-out NOT like it?  I'm not worried about gaming, just the basics.

Good luck to everyone in your pursuits.

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Laptop Carrying Cases
« on: June 20, 2005, 02:09:04 AM »
Anyone know of good on-line stores for carrying cases?

What about those backpack laptop carriers?  Make sense?

I'd prefer an "over-the-shoulder" style, but am a little worried about room for books.

Did I mention that I have no idea what I want or what I'm looking for?

Thanks for any leads...

For those knowledgable about Dell Notebooks, trying to break down the "real" differences/advantages between these two machines.

Never owned a laptop, and wondering about the difficulty of a 14" display vs a 12" display.  Plus, keyboard typing difficulties...

Thanks for any help.
