Current Law Students / Re: LEEWs vs. Law Preview

congrats on your first year!  amy other tips to share?

I've seen Penn's gym and it is awesome. I've also heard that Georgetown has a very nice gym.

I went to Penn undergrad and they were renovating the gym and finished it the year after I left.  I've heard it's unbelievable but everything at that school is!

Way too general.  Each school is different.  My school the gym is free as are all the classes.  I don't think there is a set standard for all law school gyms.  The fee is probably included some how in tuition.  I don't know any ranking systems for best law school gyms...

I don't think there is anything wrong with meeting with the guy, and telling him the truth.  He's an attorney.  He's been through law school and know what you are about to encounter.  I think it's more than fair for you to tell him that you just aren't sure what the 1L year will bring, and you want to devote all of your time to studying, at least until you get a feel for what's going on.  I don't think he can hold that against you, and hopefully will see it as a positive thing, and ask you to join him in the Summer.  Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Did anyone else click on the link for the lender and get directed to a porn site?

LOL.  How do you tell a LAW SCHOOL that you are going to sue them?  That's funny.  The place is filled with soon to be and current lawyers and you, with no law degree are going to sue them?  And you think that will make them worried?  How much of a deposit could it possibly have been for you to even be thinking this way?  Sometimes you just have to suck it up and move on.  As a future 1L, I'm sure you have A LOT more important things to be concerned with.

I think it all depends on whether or not the seat deposit is refundable.  I know for my school it was a $850 seat deposit, and you got $250 back if you let them know you no longer were attending (in writing) by June 1st.  I was accpeted to other schools that said it was nonrefundable.  I doubt the sob story would work, but you would have a MUCH better chance then telling the school that they are lower than pond scum. Call them and find out if there is anyway to get it back.  Depending on what they say, take it from there.  You don't even have to tell them who you are, just ask the general question.

It stands for Planet Law School II.  It is a rather lengthy book, and you can buy it at any bookstore I'm sure.  I got my copy online at for a lot cheaper than the bookstore prices.

Can't you use forebearance if deferment is no longer an option (as everyone keeps saying if you consolidate you lose the 6 month grace period)?  I have about 5k in undergrad loans, and as I really started gearing up for law school, my crappy job plus the expenses of LSAT, applications, seat deposits, etc. were a lot.  I spoke to my lender and they told me I was eligible for forbearance until August, and then when August comes it will go back to deferment because I will be in school.  I would think that the time you are studying for the bar after school would qualify since you probably wouldn't be making much money during that time.  Anyone know?

Current Law Students / Re: Laptop Bags

What size and type of laptop do you have?  I've been contemplating this as well.  The pre-lae section has a great thread with suggestions.  Also, depends on if you wanna carry your books and stuff in the same bag as your laptop, or if you just want a bag dedicated just for the laptop.
