Hi linquest,

I haven't had the chance to visit yet and am also waiting on 4 more schools, all of which are possibilities.  Nevertheless, I have my heart set on attending SLU just because I have known for about a month now that I am accepted and am in the kind of mental preparation to go there.

I still haven't visited (I am a west coast girl), so I can't give any personal opinions.  From friends of mine that have visited (also west coast/las vegas people), they all really liked it.  I have heard over and over about how there are bad areas of town (some of which are by the school), but overall mostly good things about the area.

It's hard because I would like to move back to San Diego, but I know SLU doesn't have a huge rep outside of MO, but I think that unless you are going to do BigLaw, you aren't completely trapped in MO.  Still, all of this is from opinions and hearsay.  I would love any current SLU students to give some advice.

I am going to be attending SLU in the fall and am quite excited.  I would love to hear from fellow Class of 2008 students or older students who might like to impart a few words of wisdom upon us future 1Ls.  And for the 2008ers, feel free to share opinions about the school, where you are going to be living, etc.
Can't wait to meet all of you in the fall!

Dang, I feel a little rejected!  Thanks, linquest, for the link.  I wonder how I missed that.  Did they e-mail it to you or was this part of the mail packet?  Oh well, I'm caught up now.

If you haven't joined the SLU admitted students listserv yet, you should definitely do so.

How/where do you join that?  I must not be as computer savvy as I thought I was.

Wait List / Waitlisted... what to do now?
« on: May 16, 2005, 01:49:11 PM »
I just got my first waitlisted letter, and I quickly replied with their provided response form just out of fear that since it is so late already they might not consider some of these later waitlisters.  But now I have been reading other posts from people that they sent in confirmation letters and such.  I am planning on trying to get another letter of recommendation, but do you think that a confirmation letter might help in all of this?  Any other advice?  I'd really love to go to this school, although I do have some back-ups.  Thanks for all of your help.

Being a USD undergrad, I decided to go into the law school admissions office and ask when to expect to hear from them.  I was hoping for something like "Oh, we have your letter right here!  Take it!" but of course I only got "You'll get a response anytime between now and mid-May."  Hmm, so they have told people beginning of April, mid-April... soon it is going to be mid-September.  If verbal contracts were binding, USD would be in a world of trouble by now.

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Schools with bad names

USD's mascot is the Torero.  I think the common question freshman year was "What the hell is that?", which we soon discovered it was a bull fighter.  So then came the next question "Why not call us the matadors then?  Or bull fighters?"  I mean seriously, has anyone ever heard of a torero?  I guess it is an Argentinian term... leave it to USD to go all out to sound weird and exotic.

Like Florida Guy said, thanks Eegah for going to Case!  Now could you just pass on that SLU scholarship to me?  ;D  I think that is how it should work... you turn down a school/money, and you can pass it off to someone on the board.  Sounds fair to me!
BTW, congrats again-- you have some major accomplishments!

Maybe we should create some "waiting on USD" support group.  I got my app in kind of late (mid-Jan), but it was actually my first app in, and so far, one of my last ones to hear from.  And I live on USD's campus, so come on-- it shouldn't take long to get here.  I am tempted to go over there and just ask for my thin envelope because as much as I would love to be accepted, I would hope they wouldn't treat their acceptees this way.  Us rejects or maybes can be strung on for an extra month or so while we have other decisions to make as well... Bitter?  Just a bit.

I think the more important question is where are the hot guys?  I have spent enough time at USD with the beautiful people (with a high majority of the undergrads being girls-- and cute ones at that... so I guess you can add USD to your list, guys), that I am ready for meeting some attractive, straight, unmarried men (yeah, I know I set high standards there ;D).  So ladies, or men who are secure with their sexuality or men who appreciate other men, where are ATTRACTIVE men???  I know there are lots of men in law school, but where is there a decent ratio (at least 50-50) and men that you wouldn't be ashamed to be seen with in public?
