I graduated from UCLA a year ago. I never really got to know any of my professors. I hardly spoke in class and I never went to office hours. I don't know any of my TAs either. How do I get an academic LOR? Should I just ask a professor in a class I aced? I need at least one academic rec. for my application to be complete. Please, any advice would be helpful. I have been trying to contact professors, but school is not yet in session, and there is no way to reach them. I want to apply this fall.

I have heard that TestMasters is the best! I took Kaplan and it did not work for me. I considered it a big waste of money. The best thing you can do is buy all the past tests from LSAC and take them under timed conditions. I did and it improved my score 10 pts. HTH

Whoa... it looks like we have a USF troll on the board. That is a pretty strong endorsement of USF, and I didn't appreciate that competition remark. Are you going to USF or did you get rejected from Santa Clara, West? Competition does not scare me, but I know that SCU is competitive and has a slight edge in the Silicon Valley market b/c of its IP program. That is all that I am saying. I heard your advice, and you are a proponent of USF. Is it okay if I get other non-biased opinions, sheesh!!!!

I don't think it is that simple. USF does have a great alumni network, but the legal market is so tight in S.F. They are competing with Standford, Boalt, and Hastings grads. I really doubt that USF is going to jump from third tier to the top tier just by improving their facilities alone, but I definetely think they are moving up. Santa Clara, on the otherhand, rose to second tier just last year, Has a top 10 National IP Program, and is also up and coming. Thank you for your response. I have a tough decision to make.

Sorry, with a 143 LSAT, it will be tough getting into any Tier 1 and 2 schools. My advice would be to retake the LSAT. All those schools you listed are SUPER Reaches. Good Luck, though.

I am applying this fall to both of these schools. What were your numbers (gpa, lsat)? I want to know if I have a chance of getting in.
