Job Search / Re: Callback interviews
« on: September 20, 2006, 07:17:14 PM »
I have to say I send thank you notes and I don't think they hurt at all especially if you think that a firm might be a bit of a reach.  I haven't gotten the callback yet, but yesterday I got a personal response to my thank you letter (i just send email) that was very positive about my credentials and telling me that they would be in touch with me soon.  I mean obviously we are all adults and you do need to proof read, but sending a quick email showing that you paid attention during the interview never hurts.

Transferring / Re: Transferring to a high Tier 1 from a low Tier 1
« on: March 12, 2006, 04:00:03 PM »
So I currently go to a low ranked Tier 1 on the east coast and am seriously considering going back to California.  I like my school but the more I think about it longterm I want a job in California.  I'm currently in about the top quarter of my class (and just didn't make moot court boo!) what are my chances of making it into UCLA or USC?  Is there really any point in trying.  I'm debating whether to study abroad this summer and if I did I couldn't transfer so I'm trying to decide what to do.

I really would like to know why one cannot do both a summer study abroad and transfer to a different law school?

FYI: From what I hear USC practically does not take any transfer applicants while to get in at UCLA would depend on where you school is ranked (by lower tier 1, do you mean closer to the 100s or the 50s?). If you are closer to the 100s then you would probably need to be in at least 10%.

Basically I can't do a study abroad because that would be too many credits to transfer, I'd essentially be throwing away all the money I'd have to pay for the summer study abroad.  I also think there would be other complications with accepting to the other school and dropping out of my school.  My school is in the 40's.

I think if you re read your own post you'd realize what a complete and utter a-hole you are.

And as for my post, someone asked if anyone had a serious relationship that sustained through law school, I had a friend who did, so I shared.  So if my post was complete and utter dribble what exactly was yours?

This isn't personal experience, but I used to work with a young lawyer who kept her undergrad boyfriend and still is with him.  She said it was pretty difficult at times because her life was so seperate from him and she was doing all these things that didn't include him, but they pulled through.  She stayed in the same town for undergrad and law school though so that may have helped too.

Oh I'm not talking that deep. I mean sure there are good guys out there that are lawyers, but after seeing some of the posts on this thing from guys who say how they don't date other girls in law school because those girls think that being smart and accomplished somehow compensates for them not be hot.  So they date undergrads who worship them and don't demand or expect much.  I mean the dating pool just seems as though it could be a little limited in terms of datable men in law school, unfortunately.

Yeah I was wondering what dating a lawyer would be like, you kind of get this horrible image in your head of a womanizer, but then again I watch to much tv.

Ah, yes but this is modern times and the practice of law is not restricted to only men-- I have also known several successful women lawyers, who are as tough as the men. I think many lawyers are not especially romantic, and tend to view relationships as to how they might benefit their careers (business savvy.)

I must remember to re-evaluate my intended purpose.

Yeah I know you're probably right about a lot of women too, but that is still depressing.  Considering for the next three years and beyond I'm going to be surrounded by lawyers not being able to date any will suck.

Why are you so sure you won't be able to date any?

I don't know, so far the idea doesn't seem to appealing.
