U of California - Hastings / Re: Housing
« on: March 30, 2005, 10:31:21 AM »
I know, I have been struggling with the same thing. Do you have any idea what the square footage is on a one bedroom? Is that the 450? I actually mailed in my app today, and I plan on scheduling an appt. to look at one of the units in a couple of weeks. I know that utilities including wireless internet access are included in the rent so that makes the price seem like more of a deal.

I've also been accepted for fall and I plan to attend. I'll be going to the admitted students day on Mar 26th. I chose Hastings because it is a good fit for me personally. I love SF and eventually want to practice in the bay area. Also, my husband wants to attend UCSF for a masters nursing program, so he really wanted me to go to Hastings. I have a good friend who graduated from Hastings in May and he also encouraged me to attend (and he'll give me all his outlines, etc :D)

I was a little concerned about this because Hastings is in a dodgy part of SF, but I found out that they offer a shuttle service from 6:00 - 11:30 pm that will take you anywhere within a mile of campus, including student housing, parking garages, the BART station or MUNI stop, or your apartment if you live that close. Since I plan to live in student housing, this made me feel much better. I imagine many urban schools might offer something similar. They have also recently started offering free self defense classes.

The Hastings acceptance comes in a normal sized business envelope and there are only 2 or 3 sheets of paper - so it almost looks like a rejection when you first see it. Good luck to all!!

oooh, good luck Amante and West Coast!
Amante - I went to decision on a Thursday and got my letter on Monday, so hopefully you will hear today!  ;)

Good luck, my fingers are crossed for you!

I am really sorry to hear about your sister's situation, but I beleive she still has options. I think her plan of taking a couple of years off to work  is a great idea. You mentioned she's been rejected so far for paralegal type jobs - does she have any previous work experience? She can keep trying while also looking into other options - she may need to start at an entry level job and try to work her way up over the next couple of years. She can retake the LSAT,  take a prepcourse to help improve her score and boost her confidence, and also look into schools that take the higher lsat score, I think there are some threads on here that list schools that will take the high score. I don't know much about getting gov't jobs in DC, hopefully others can help with that.  Best of luck to her  :)

The UC Davis mascot is also the Aggies - I went there and I still don't really understand that - they use a picture of a horse...

tragic.  now go away to wherever it is that all unemployed people are sent by republicans.
No kidding. My dad is also unemployed - his company was sold about a month ago and his job was moved to Ohio, so we are starting to wonder if unemployment is contagious.
