Job Search / Job Search for a Transfer Student - HELP!
« on: January 24, 2007, 02:18:00 PM »
Hey guys - I attended a 3rd Tier law school during my first year and ultimately transferred up to a top 20 school.  I participating in OCI and sent out a few mail merges and havent yielded much luck.  I feel my 3rd Tier school isnt enough at all to get me in the door, let alone I just got a GPA, today, from my current school.  Is the big firm search pretty much dead in the water at this point?  Any general advice you would have would be great.

Whebert - I had my application in very early so maybe that explains the quick notification?  I was top 10% with a 3.3 gpa (2.7 curve)

dankeshoen, I am also at a T3 and I was just accepted at George Washington as a transfer student.  Your law school numbers are very impressive and better than what I had.  I think you have a great chance.  I know you may be tempted to stay because of scholarship money, but from what some of my professors have told me, getting into one of those top programs is just not  something you can pass up.  I would definitely give it a try and I wish you luck

Transferring / T3 to T1 is possible

Hey guys, just wanted to wish those of you who are still waiting on transfer decisions good luck.  I received a call yesterday from George Washington letting me know they would accept my transfer application.  I am coming from a T3 school and couldn't be happier.  That being said, for those of you who worked really hard at the lower tier schools and are trying to transfer up to the tier 1 schools, it is definitely possible.

Is anyone familiar with the D.C. area, I'm trying to find a good area to search for housing.  Any pointers would be helpful

brooks - I have not found a place yet. I will probably be heading up this month to find an apartment. I wanted to live in the apartments directly across from Stetson, but some of the 1 bedrooms are going for $800/month, which is just ridiculous. Have you found a place yet?

Blindmouse - Im in the same situation. I called this afternoon and they told me "Your file is complete and the assistant dean of admissions has yet to review it"

Forgive me for sounding like a broken record, but WHAT THE HELL?!

I am a little surprised I have not heard from them yet either. My applications are really all over the place - Ive been accepted at places I didnt think I would get into, but WL at places I thought I would surely get in. Right now, I am thinking of Stetson as my first choice, but I am still holding out for UNC and their ridiculous admissions office  ::)

I sent my application materials in during early December. Their admissions office was actually very friendly. I told them I was curious to the status of my application and the receptionist actually forwarded my call to the assistant dean of admissions. I did not ask about any other acceptance decisions, she just told me that a new batch of WL decisions was being sent out late last week. If you give them a call, Im sure they can tell you if they are still accepting applicants. I have a 3.9 and a 156
