Black Law Student Discussion Board / Re: The Orientation Thread
« on: August 08, 2005, 08:40:24 PM »
What up peeps?  First day of orientation and all I can say was it was a trip...definitely an experience...I will refrain from blasting anyone.  However we did have a "White tee" guy but he could pull it off because he had on gym shorts, flip flops and gold fronts...and I'm not even lying...other than that it was pretty boring...Oh yeah a prof. that was talking picked on a blind guy because she thought he was sleep, he was just turned sideways so he could hear her better..

I feel so bad for laughing at this when I first read it..

Imagine how I felt I was there and I "DID" laugh  ;D ;D

Black Law Student Discussion Board / Re: Am I black?
« on: August 08, 2005, 08:32:59 PM »
I'd love to spice this conversation up a little bit.

I consider myself black but I have an interesting background that might disqualify me according to certain individuals. I'd be interested to hear other perspectives. My father is a white Jew, my mother is black, of African-American descent who converted to Judaism. I consider my self black and Jewish.  I was raised for many years in a mostly Jewish community. While we found most Jews to the least prejudice group of white people, I still experienced racism. My family and I no longer live in that community but we all experience the racism common in America. I've been followed in stores because of my skin color, and white women tend to hold their purses a little bit tighter when I am around. However, I do look bi-racial and I have had a completely different experience that what is stereotypically thought to be normal for black an average black American. So I repeat, am I black?

Are you Lenny Kravitz?

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Re: Best Laptop for Law School?
« on: August 07, 2005, 12:03:03 AM »

I bought this wireless keyboard and mouse from Overstock.com for $25 to use with my laptop when I am at home.  This set retails for $39.99 at Target.  Installation was a breeze (and I am very technically challenged!) and I love it!

Hey Roxie...why not just type on your laptop at home...Won't it improve your speed and comfort with your new laptop...BTW, what type do you have...

Wow, interesting conversations going on here.  I would post more often but I have moved and have no internet access at home yet.

No internet access, where did you move to...the Sudan :D  Shouldn't you be honing your torture law student skills, killing kittens or something to get you in law professor shape :D

Every book I have is bigger than Harry Potter 5 :o...and they use all these big words like "opprobrium" and fortuitous and the such, and that's just the first page >:( It's gonna be a long semester. I gotta get a TiVo immediately!

Black Law Student Discussion Board / Re: Roberts on the Supreme Court

What do y'all think about this new news that Roberts helped with the big gay rights SCOTUS case in '96?  (Sorry I'm in a hurry and not providing details, but the story was front page in NYT today.)  How much does this freak conservatives out?  They're always afraid they'll get another Souter :D

That was a pretty interesting case  http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/scripts/getcase.pl?court=us&vol=000&invol=U10179 , I have no idea why he would take that case...maybe he had a pang of conscience perhaps because it was soooo discrimnatory on its face, he thought it would be an easy win, but the current counsel didn't have a clue...The Right is trying to spin it and say he only spent 10 hours on the case...Scalia, Uncle Thomas and Reinquist are the damn 3 stooges, how could they dissent in such a obvious discrimnatory case

is anyone following "The Law Firm"?  great show

http://www.nbc.com/The_Law_Firm/

Yeah I watch it, that chick Anika had her weave too tight...she was too worried about looking cute that she forgot to not look stupid...Rarely do you ever see minorities as lawyers on tv and she had to go and be the stupidest >:(

One of my guy friends told me that it takes a real man to wear pink . . .lol.  :D

I was shopping the other day and there were like a thousand dayum pink shirts for Men, WTF...every other shirt had pink in it...I was with my boys and I told them..."don't fall for that gay ish...they are trying to lure you to the dark side" :D

Whatever, and ya'll complain when you find out down the road that he is on the DL ;D...Take the hints where you get them.
