General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / Re: Northwestern c/o 2010

Hey, did you have to pay 5% more to get a 9-month lease? tyia

I signed up for a studio at McClurg.  I asked about the 9 month lease before I signed and they mentioned the 5% thing too.

So I talked to a different person at the McClurg (since the original person wasn't responding to my phone calls or emails) and they got us the 9-month lease for the same price as 12. jsyk.

doh! oh well, i hope it won't be too hard to sublet

I think the best advice would be to apply to a wide variety of schools.  Some schools will be splitter friendlier than others, but occasionally you will be surprised.  For example, GW, prior to this year, didn't really take splitters.  This year they took pretty much anyone with >168+ even if GPA was under 3.0.  As a splitter, you don't have the luxury of having a predictable cycle.

Also be ready to hang around on waitlists.  If you are serious about getting into the best school you can, you must have the patience to wait.  You will probably get into mid tier 1 schools early on, but realize that people do often get admitted off the WL in the summer.

Jolie is on the money with reards to Northwestern.  Also, from what i've seen on LSN/forums is that applicants who have >4 years of WE tend to have more successful cycles than those with a year or two.
