Where should I go next fall? / Re: UIUC ... what do you think?

ILSOX, sure thing.

Rage, you can use a Mac.  For finals you need a windows machine, at least this year.  Our IT staff (they are really helpful by the way) say that they want to allow Mac's for next year.

Champaign is a nice Big-10 college town, anyone who argues otherwise knows nothing.  As much as I'm forced as a UIowa student to troll against UI-UC, it's an awesome school with intelligent undergrads and grads and a beautiful campus.

UIUC's campus may be one of the ugliest around.  Not trying to troll here, but you will find very few people who claim there is anything beautiful about Chambana.  It may be a great place for some people to go, but pretty it is not.

Can't believe that you are still so bitter about not being admitted to UIUC.

To Rager, I am a 3L here. I love the school, like the town.  The professors are top notch and you can actually meet with them when you want to.  My classmates are friendly and come from all over the country.  Most of us are going to Chicago, but it is a huge legal market and a great city.  I do have friends that are going to DC, NYC and Houston.  I have had offers in other cities, but I wanted to be in Chicago after graduation.

Law School Applications / Re: Alma Matters

Not that I'm gonna go, but I'm peeved that Illinois has not shown me the love yet, especially considering the director of admissions was once my professor and personally promised to handle my file.

#@%#)(

Paul Pless was your professor?  For what class?

Whoops, I meant former! Tom Ginsburg actually.

Oh, Ginsburg was chair of the adcomm.  Pless is the Dean of Admissions.  If you really did only go complete on 1/30 I think it might be a little optimistic to think you will get an answer in 15 days.  What school is your first choice?

Bringing up another offer is key. It should be from a comparable school too.  Just be straight foward.  "I would really want to go to Illinois, but if Wash U is going to be 10k cheaper, I just can't turn them down."  Obviously pretty that up a bit, but you get the idea.

I am a 2L here at Illinois.  I negotiated with Paul (Dean Pless) before I signed.  I did it at one of the Open Houses but I know other people that did via email.  What he told me was that while he can't always increase their offer (they did for me) that he would rather have the chance than for you to just go to another school because of a difference of $5,000.
