Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Re: University of Miami
« on: December 09, 2005, 12:03:21 AM »
Hello everyone accepted to Miami (and those still waiting to hear) - -

I am a 1L at UM now. I remember a year ago I was in your shoes, waiting anxiosly to hear back from schools, obessively checking my mailbox, and writing to people on LSD...

STOP! Everyone stop and go to the bar. Go to a movie. Enjoy your freedom!! PLEASE!! I am in HELL right now. 2 finals down and 2 more to go - - everyone who was in law school last year told me not to come, warned me how hard it was, etc. They were right. I was too stupid to listen. Dont get me wrong, this definately was the best choice for me. But if i wasnt in Miami and had the sunny weather (which, i only see for for five minutes as I walk from my car into the library) I would kill myself. No really. Think about moving away from all your friends and family. Think about not having any free time - because you wont. Think about the money, all the money that will be spent on school, etc. Think about the stress and the pressure and really really ask yourselves if you can do this. Several people have dropped out. Everyone is stressed and many people are miserable and threatening to drop out. It gets to the point later in the semester when you have memos due and exams looming and you have so much work you have to skip classes just to get all the *&^% done.

BUT - - I love miami. I love the school. I love the pressure - this is what I can see myself doing everyday for years to come. We have an amazing 1L class - tons of fun people and I have made friends here I will have the rest of my life. I dont know about other schools. I have friends at schools in Chicago, Michigan (where i am from), and boston - they are miserable. The people at those schools are not cool and the weather sucks. You might not think that is a big deal, but trust me, it is.

I dont want to walk up to random people and say LSD? LSD? I'm sure they will think i'm looking to score some drugs. I am the short little blonde girl from michigan, ya cant miss me. Everyone I met so far from LSD knew me right away - I briefly had my picture up too.

But please - if you see me and realize who I am, come introduce yourself!!!!

Yea, we had a lot of fun...its a pretty cool place but remember that annoying siren that kept going off? Then you left me to dance and have fun but I had to sit with my drunk friend who had the hiccups so bad I thought he was going to pass out. He totally wanted you and your friend by the way!! You are the cutest, canegirl!!

Hello people! Last night was a lot of fun, some of us girls on the board got a chance to meet face to face. Me, DJladyJO, and Canegirl met and got along great - but we didnt make a big deal about it to other people because its kind of fun that we have this whole little "secret" group of friends already - -

Cant wait to meet more of you. Who else is boating it today?

he found out two days ago, i'm not sure if it was by mail or by phone. I am picking him up from the airport tomorrow he is staying with me for the weekend and I am going to help him find an apartment.(anyone know of anywhere other than santona?)

What i do know is that a few months ago most people on the waitlist got a letter in the mail saying "thanks, but we are not accepting anyone off the waitlist, blah blah" - my friend did NOT get that letter. He must have been at the top of the waitlist and when someone withdrew at the last minute, he got in.

Does anyone know what a typical week schedule looks like for a 1L?? I mean, not just what classes we are taking but the times we are taking them and what an average day looks like???

So last night I was in my new apartment and experienced my first Miami thunderstorm - The lightenining was not as scary as the booming thunder, it was the loudest noise I have ever heard. I'm on the 16th foor of a highrise thougn, I wonder if being higher up makes a difference in how loud the thunder sounds...All i know is that my dog was scared and I could not sleep!

Hello from Miami!! I am finally here, and my apartment is awesome!! It is so hot here its gross and I bet August will be even hotter!

I am trying to learn my way around, moving across the country and to a new state is so confusing, but I've been here three days and have driven in all directions so I think i'm getting the hang of it...Its just hard to find things like Costco, Target, etc... I am living pretty much in the middle of everything and every person I ask tells me to go to a different location, so its all about finding the closest things to me and the best possible way to go about getting there.

I did the drive to school down US-1 , its a little trafficy but it didnt take me more than 15 minutes. I drove all through Kendall its nice but very congested with traffic. I wonder if there is any back ways to get to school from where I am (near 395) instead of shooting all the way down US-1.

Well, i gotta go I'm leaving tomorrow to go on a cruise to the bahamas for the weekend, I hope the hurricanes and tropical storms dont eat my cruise ship.
