At my school, it also depends on the professor. Seriously, don't sweat it. Do the reading, prepare for class, and HOPE that you get a professor who knows how to use the Socratic method properly. When you do, you'll realize how effective it is in both helping you to more thoroughly absorb and understand the material and in teaching you how to really work your way through the law.

Yeah, you'll probably screw up. No, you really will screw up. And you will be mortified.

But your peers will respect your more for playing the game and screwing up than they will for hiding your head and hoping not to be called on. So will your professors.

Enjoy it. It's one of the most exhilirating experiences of law school.

I totally don't recommend Compaq. Sorry to those of you who have just bought them. I bought mine just before my first year and had to immediately send it back because the screen was malfunctioning. So I was without a computer for the first two weeks of class. After that, it had to go back three more times that year alone for different problems. Had to send it back one again during my second year and should have sent it back again, but I haven't been able to find a time that I can manage to be without it. As it is now, I have to be careful not to hit the Caps Lock button or the keyboard will freeze.

If this were an isolated incident, I wouldn't discourage you. Everyone I've spoken to, though, has had basically the same experience with their Compaq laptop.

The Dell people I speak with seem pretty happy, though. The Sony people are in love. And the Mac people are converted for life. I'd say go with a Mac if your school doesn't use exam software that's incompatible with Mac (they also have some good student deals going on right now). Otherwise, Sony or Dell are a good way to go.

I'm a GULC evening student. It's not incredibly hard to transfer (as long as you do well your first year). I'd say about half of my first-year class transferred - many of whom weren't expecting to do so before they came in.

Not sure about GULC giving preference to those who need to go in the evening and I also don't know if you'll gain much (if any) advantage in admissions by applying to the evening program. If the grade cut-offs after the first and second years are any indicative of grades coming in, the evening section's median GPA would be higher than those of most of the day sections.

No harm in trying, though.
