I don't have a feel for how good this estimate is, it really depends on how far you live away from school.  COL in the area is pretty low compared to the rest of the Midwest.  Of course, downtown will be pricier.

Up at ~5
Work 6:30 - ~3:00
Study ~3:30 - 5:30
Class 5:30 - 7:30 M-F
Home ~8
Sat - maybe 1-3 hrs
Sun - 12-8 study

Wife, 2 kids, and average grades.  Traded grades for semi-stable marriage and family life.
10-11 hours a semester and 3-5 in the summer

latinlord - I know of at least one guy in the evening division (at IU-I) who is transferring after this summer session to a FT program at Seattle Univ. - hours transfer, grades don't.

good point about the reading - some books are easier reads and you can do 20-30 pages an hour, other books are very confusing and I end up re-reading a lot of material.  20-30 mintues of crim law or con law was enough in one sitting - not to mention that reading some SCOTUS opinion at 9:30 at night is a sure cure for insomnia - definately low on the retention scale.

don't forget the research time for the writing class.  we upgraded to a broadband connection so spending hours on lexis / westlaw could be done at home and not the library.

I go part time - 10 hours a week - and work full time.  I put in 2-2.5 hours a day during the week reading - which is barely enough to keep up.  I also spend 5-10 hours on Sunday and occassionally 4 on Saturday - usually when a paper is due.  The wife covers all the housework, yardwork, kid carting, etc.  She also substitute teaches.  The school recommends 3 hours prep for every hour class.  On a good week, I approach 2 hours per class hour, but make it almost all of the games.  I take the hit in getting lower grades and less sleep.

Your spouse needs to be on board - we did not realize how much would be put on the other partner. 

I think 3:00pm is optimistic unless you plan on being at school at 6am and treat it like a 40 hour job where in between class you read / study.

Dark color w/ white shirt and conservative tie.  None of the shiny stuff you see on TV.  Remember, most firms are very conservative so for you guys, this also means no earrings.

My experience is very, very light in this area.  The law journals are based on gpa or you can get in if you win a writing competition.  If you are in the top 10% you'll be invited to join law review.  IU-I's web site may have more info on the other journals.  From what I've seen though, journal work is a lot on top of a bunch of course work already, so if you don't mind living at the law school you'll be ok.

I think the trial court internships are pretty tough because of the experience they provide.  I know one person who is in at the prosecutors office and it is a paid position.  They had a recommendation from someone in the 'community' that got them the job because I know the grades weren't there.  It seems most people are looking for paid positions.  Sorry, wish I could offer more than just generalities.

Overall, competition does not seem that fierce as what I expected.  I have not seen any cases of removing library books or giving your class mates bad info so they choke on the exam.

So pretty much the answer is: I don't know.

No, but I heard Wilkins is pretty good.

Beware profs who have never taught a first year class before - they assume you know too much of the basics and forget 1Ls may not even know the jargon let alone the basic concepts of the course.
