Transferring / Transferapps database
« on: May 22, 2010, 05:07:28 PM »
If anyone is interested, the transferapps database I put together last year is still online.
(Set Cycle = 2010 for just this year's data, 2009 for last year's data.)

Filter data at the top and enter data at the bottom. I modified the structure a bit so that it can be used for the 2010 cycle as well. My goal was to have something like this replace the transferapps database. DabbleDB is good, but I couldn't figure out how to get things setup the way I wanted to, so I just left it like it is. They may have added new features in the last year that would make it easier to work with if someone is interested in picking this up.

I also created a separate database for notification methods and timing here:
(Filter this page for 2010 cycle by just putting 2010 in the Decision Date field at top)

Alright, OCI is over - what's the final roundup? Things getting better?

RE: Class selection - FedJur with Mortara is supposedly an awesome class (I'm sure Strauss is good as well but I'm taking the Mortara one). If you're interested in taking Secured Transactions I'd take it with Baird since he rarely teaches it and Baird is a great teacher. The only class I would recommend waiting on would be Corporations and taking it with Henderson in the winter. I took 3 Henderson classes last year and enjoyed Corporations exponentially more than the others - he's just really good in it IMO.

Thanks for the tips on both of these courses.

Does anyone have or can relate comments on Zarfes?  I am considering his IT Law seminar.

Yeah, but my credit limit isn't much higher than that.

Call credit card company and have limit increased, HTH.

Good luck with that.

Most people have the option to take a scholarship or attend a higher ranked school as well.  "No scholarship," is usually a chioce.

Anyone else getting in by taking the place of the Stanford/Harvard defectors?

Who is defecting?

Trump and someone else (don't know his forum name).  Just to be clear, these are transfer admits who were going to attend, not U of Chicago 1Ls who are leaving.

(3) Reformed Code. Sheesh, it's not like you can memorize the whole Code or even need to. I'm sure you've noticed or you should have noticed that a lot of stuff from say, the 1954 Code made it to the 1986 Code. You learn the core stuff, learn the tax common law doctrines and then roll with the changes. Don't worry about this one. Seriously. This is far more aggrivating at the state level but still--you can manage it.

He may have been referring to something like a complete overhaul as proposed by Fair Tax advocates.

In at Stanford. Phone call from dean of admissions and financial aid.

Congrats!  Does this mean you are not joining us in Chicago?

I think the given answer is correct (I didn't write it but did talk it over).  Student is top 10% and has law review at Tulane.  Student is also spending the summer clerking for a federal judge.  Student will take the Tulane grades to fall oci at either school.

Student stays at Tulane, saves more than $50k, can (and will) get biglaw, and has a 40% chance of getting published.  What does transferring to GULC do for the student?

I would agree with this perspective.  I was in basically the same position except I was not clerking for a federal judge.  The jump to Georgetown didn't seem like it was worth it.

accepted today.  excited!

I thought you made the cut on the 10th?

I did.  What I meant was that I accepted their offer today.  I guess enrolled is the correct word.

Yeah, that would be the more sensible interpretation. =)
