I am interested mainly in patent law and want to work within the legal department for biotech companies. I was doing some research into patent law for technical fields and it seems that most patent attorneys have at least a masters if not a Ph.D. in the technical field (i.e computer science, chemistry, bio, physics) that they work in. I did my undergrad in bio (and journalism) so I am looking to get a masters in either microbio, biotech or pharmacology while getting my J.D.
Minnesota seems to have the most comprehensive program if you want to masters in scientific field while getting a JD but I am not so sure about living in Minnesota… I am still trying to figure out what my options are. I think I am going to try schools that have separate masters programs in science but not necessarily a set dual degree program and see if there is way I could do it on my own, that is what I ended up doing in undergrad.
What are you interested in doing after law school? If you went to UVA what would you get your MA in?
