Why not a Lenovo X61? I configured an X61 on their site with 2gb RAM, a 120GB HD, and the high-end display for $1750.

Seconded

Double-seconded.  :-)  I TA'ed for our Intro to Engineering course and this is the first year we required freshmen to get tablets.  There were various HPs, Compaqs, and others, but I really liked the X61's.  I confess I'm a Thinkpad owner and have really come to like it a lot, so I might be biased.  None the less, I think the X61 was the most professional looking and least bulky.  Whatever you decide, make sure the stylus is magnetic and not pressure based.

PS I recommend Windows XP and not overdoing it on the ram.  32-bit OS's can only address 4gbs anyway and if you get XP you'll be set with 2gb.  If you get more ram, that's a shorter battery life!

False.  Support for Windows XP SP2 will continue until at least April 8, 2014.  That's about 3 years after I complete my JD in 2011.  :-)

I don't believe he was talking about when they'll stop supporting XP.

Yep....My point was when the time comes that you can only get Vista, law schools will have to start supporting it.

Just an FYI

For anyone who is considering a Lenovo, I just got an email with the spring coupon code for an extra discount.

When you check out, enter USPSPRINGFLING for an extra 15% off the R series, 10% off the X and T series. Seems to not include the x300.

And BTW, you can special order Lenovos with XP instead of Vista. Lots of schools do not support Vista, so it might be worth your while to hunt around for that option.

Edit:expires April 27, so hippity hop!

They are going to have to start because MS is pulling the plug on XP on june 30th. Though obviously this could change.

I've had a T42 for 3+ years now (4 in December) and I love it.  I did have a fan failure about a year ago, but I purchased the 9x5 next business day service so they came out and fixed it right away.  I looked at it and I'm pretty sure it was just full of dust and couldn't spin up.

I highly suggest that you avoid Vista if you can.  Its a bloated OS that will need time for bugs to be worked out and hardware to evolve to support it.  XP had the same problem, but now I consider it "seasoned" well enough.  If you really want to run Vista, run it on a Mac.  :-)

You do know about the 125th Street fault?

Well, who goes past 116th anyway?

He already said that he used prescription drugs to study throughout school.  He wouldn't be experimenting.  I can't imagine how that's so hard to believe.  I'd say half of my UG did about the same thing.  I know I did.  I've also thought about getting a prescription for law school.  I don't even think I'm ADD, but damn if I wouldn't finish top 5% on that poo.

I don't know anyone who took more than caffeine pills in ugrad and I was in engineering school.  Do you think this varies by campus or am I just oblivious?  I know that law school is competative, but how many people really go this far?
