Nothing like trying to fix your credit when you need to get an education loan...Almost makes me want to just have a heart attack and fall over.  I am definitly going to get on them in hopes of expediting the process.  I seriously have no idea as to why federal loan has the cap of $18,500, especially considering that the cost of education has been rising rapidly for more than a decade.  I am wondering when the cap was set...probably when I was still picking my nose or something.  As difficult as it is to wait, I am going to hold of a couple more days before I give a shot at Keybank (they sound very promising), and Nellie Mae.

On a side note, I spoke with a customer over the phone today at work, and he told me that he consolidated his student loan with Sallie Mae with the interest rate of 3.5% about two weeks ago, and he said there was no fees to do it.  I think once I fix my problem with my current lender, I am going to try to reconsolidate my loan with them, although I am not sure if I can do that or not.

What is the "alternative loan"?
It's just another name for private loan

Well, I just spoke with my FA director, and she was of no help.  When I explained to her about my situation, her reply was that the alternative loan is the last resort for students, and that students always found ways to get it.  When I asked her if she could point me to any lender that could help me, she said that the lenders don't disclose the type of information needed for her to help students.  It was obvious that other students have asked her similar questions before, and I am pretty sure that she told them what she told me.  FA director with years under her belt, and yet can not offer me any type of advice.  Anyways, I submitted on-line dispute with transunion regarding my forbearance, so hopefully that will be corrected ASAP.  I called my servicer and they are still processing the correction, and the rep I spoke with said that it should be corrected by the end of the week, at which time they will notify the credit reporting agencies.  So, as much as I would like to apply to all the lenders out there, especially considering that I am on a time crunch, I am going to wait for about a week for my credit to be fixed.

Ruskiegirl - I really appreciate your effort to help me.

Burning Sands - I keep thinking to myself that we can't possibly the first ones to encounter this type of problem, and am wondering how others resolved this issue.  There has to be some way to get the private loan.

So far, I have tried T.H.E, and Acces group which said that I need a sponsor.  I already belong to a credit union, but their tuition option program states in bold letters that you need to have a cosigner with good credit.

Thanks for the advice.  I plan to talk to FA director tomorrow, and hopefully she can help me find a lender that is willing to give me a loan.  I have been looking into applying to Nellie Mae, and Key West, but want to wait until I can get my Credit score fixed.  I have forebearnce on my undergraduate loan, but was showing as deliquent for the past several months.  Hopefully, I can get that fixed, although I am not sure how long that will take, nor how much of that will raise my FICO score.

I don't have good credit, and was unable to secure an alternative loan on my own, and unfortunately I don't have any cosigner.  Anyone know of any lenders that might consider giving me a loan?

I just started a new Yahoo group for the people who will be attending Ave Maria this fall.  Come and join the group.  I just received four books from Ave Maria as a required summer reading.  Have you receive yours yet?
