pretty much sums it up.  so i guess we can expect some sort of rebel bay area crew at UM that will always complain about the humidity and 90 degree summer weather.  haha.

i was actually really homesick in my first year of undergrad at michigan.  the main difference was that i knew that i would return home upon graduation.  for law school, i likely won't return home for good until maybe 5 years after graduation.  so yeah, i will probably move to coral gables early enough so that i can adjust to the humidity and homesickness.  haha.

Yea we already have a rebel crew, but it's more of a Cali crew. We tend to come together and stick together for some odd reason, no matter how different we are from each other. It's like we understand each other better than everyone else. Don't get me wrong, I think everyone up here is coo too, especially the one's from Florida. I'm still homesick tho :-[ but I think it has a lot to do with the fact that i'm sitting in this jail cell looking dorm in this awful weather, and I can't leave cuz I don't have a car out here. While my friends in Cali are all enjoying the Cali sun.

Aside from all the Hurricane predictions, I was scared out my ass today in class just off the thunder and lightening. The trees looked like they were going to fly in the classroom! It didn't seem to surprise anyone else, except for the only other student from Cali. My friend said not to worry about it, and that lightning is normal out here and a few people have gotten struck but it's something you'll get use to...sheeet not me! Not only that but the rain is very odd. It rains in some spots and not in others. Today we were walking and it began to rain, my friend said "stand right here"(about 2 feet to the right) "it's not raining right here" haha this is crazy. It was funny cuz the right side of my outfit was wet but the left side wasn't, how crazy it that?

well i only talked to once student there, so it's just one person, but he was from michigan and really liked it there.  i dunno.

i think for me, it's just a reaction because i'm leaving a place i love in the bay area.  it's generally clean and the weather here is better.  of course, i also DO want to leave here bc i want to experience something new.  grass is greener on the other side, right?

I agree with you 100%, coming to Miami I expected so much more by the way everyone talks about it. But i failed to realize that the people that are so amazed with Miami come from places like Michigan, or Deleware or other places where the the weather is not all that or where there is not much to do. For us who are from the Bay or Ca, it's really not all that. In fact in my opinion, I don't think there is a better place to be than Ca, but that's just my opinion. I'm here b/c I want to experience something new, don't get me wrong, the campus is beautiful but it's really not better than the Bay in my opinion. I was homesick the first day I was out here.

I'm out here and will be here till June 30th. I might get some time to hang out on the wknd, other than that it's all bad. Miami....well the campus at least is beautiful. Besides the fact that I almost got bit by an alligator on the way to classtoday, everything is all good. I'm feeling the campus a lot. I can go outside to study right in front of the lake, it's really off the hook. I'm not feeling the roaches though!

Choosing the Right Law School / Hastings vs. Miami Help!!!
« on: May 23, 2007, 11:36:23 AM »
When I first started the application process I really wanted to stay in Cali because this is where I am from and where all my family and friends are. However, when I got into the University of Miami it tended to be a better school than most of the California schools I got accepted to. So I made my decision to attend. I was also granted a fellowship to participate in Miami's 5 week summer institute starting this Sun May 27th. However, today I received this email from Hastings:

I am writing to you regarding your application for admission to UC Hastings College of Law for the fall of 2007.  Due to an error in our admissions process, you were sent a denial letter prior to appropriate review. If you are still interested in attending Hastings, I have been given the authority to notify you that you may appeal the decision you received. Your appeal may be sent via e-mail. The appeal should briefly describe your continued interest in attending Hastings this fall. I sincerely apologize for this error and hope that you will consider appealing.

Now I am debating whether it is worth going through the appeal process with Hastings or should I continue my plans with Univ of Miami? What are your thoughts on Hastings vs. Univ of Miami? Thanks!

P.S. Another way I look at it is this: if you don't have acceptances from a higher ranked school that is not offering you any money you might be selling yourself a little short in the application process. Usually the schools that your too good for will offer you a great deal of money to give you an incentive to attend. So if you don't have an acceptance from a higher ranked school who is not offering you money than you probably could apply to a higher ranked school and get in. (If you apply early) When my friend got a full ride a Berkeley she figured she was worth more than she thought, so she applied to Harvard...that's when she got in, but without a scholarship. I hope you consider applying EARLY next cycle because I belive with your numbers you could get into those other schools. Hope this helps.

I think you should wait. You have good numbers. The most important thing to remember when applying is to do it early otherwise you will be at a disadvantage. I'm sure you'll get into those other schools if you apply early this time around. My friend had a 160 and like a 3.8 GPA and she just got into Harvard! Don't sell yourself short b/c your in a rush to go to law school. However, don't get me wrong, Santa Clara is an excellent school. You will not be at a disadvantage if you go there. But you may have better opportunites if you go to UCLA. Hope that helps some.

In at AIE...going to LA Yay!!!
