Law School Applications / Re: Dear Penn
« on: May 04, 2007, 01:55:37 PM »
Now it's been a full week and still no word by mail.  Is this commonplace from penn?  On a related note, my brother received a package mailed from Philadelphia on 5/1 that arrived today.  I will be moving away from my current address tommorrow, I hope it gets here by then...

So, now it's Thursday and my decision did not arrive today. I know Penn mailed my decision last Friday.  Seven days seems excessive, ought I call and annoy them even more, just to varify the address??

Called today. Said a decision was mailed out on the 26th... they wouldn't tell me on the phone... this mean i am rejected?

Same here, although mine was mailed Friday...It means we definitely weren't waitlisted, and I am certainly expecting the worst.  Best of luck to you!

Where should I go next fall? / Re: W&L ($$) vs. Alabama ($$$$ and bf)

Just curious, how do you see the opportunities for summer employment?  i.e., is there a significant enough difference that may defray some of the additional cost of going to w&l?

Here's my deal:  I got rejected from every T14 to which I applied (except Penn who is yet to reject me, but they probably will).  I don't come up with some nonsense about how I didn't want them anyway and they aren't as good as the schools I DID get into, and how their admissions personnel don't take candidates like me (Fredd has less than a 3.0 gpa, nuff said).  If it makes you feel better to talk about the difficulty of your undergrad, or the portability of a third tier school to which you were accepted fine.  Just remember, these are the type of things the psychologists can help you with.

Also, Trey would be embarassed by you.

Ouch, I admit my GPA sucks but it's never been below a 3.0.  Also williamsburg guy, I'm not bitter about my acceptances/waitlists at all.  When I was looking at schools, I determined UF was the last school that I would choose to enroll at.  I determined that I did not want to go to FSU and that Miami was not worth the price of tuition.  If I had been rejected at Gainesville I would have spent a few years working before reconsidering applying.  Duke, UVA, and GULC were all pretty big reaches and I'm not surprised I wasn't admitted but I'm glad to have at least been waitlisted.  If I don't get in, I'll be happy heading down to Gainesville for the next three years and I'm confident the education I receive there will more than prepare me for my career.  I hope you'll feel the same way wherever you enroll.

Sorry Fred, guess I misread something.  Let me know if you have any questions about living in Gainesville, I'd be happy to help.  I am pretty much 100% positive I went to hs with you, btw.

How silly of me, I thought you couldn't handle the rigor of your University...thank you for explaining to me how it was actually that you just didn't "apply yourself."

You probably are on the right track in assuming your numbers are better than mine, you know, given the results.

We'll just go ahead and count the "applied at the deadline" excuse again...

Excuse ticker: 6

The debate isn't about Wake, it's about UM, numbnuts.  You said UM is better than UF.  I couldn't possibly care less about Wake or GMU, they are totally irrelevant to your argument, which is the one I addressed.

I'd like to get back to the actual subject.  I think UF is the better school, and it is more prestegious in the entire southeast (including miami).  If you want an opportunity to live in Miami during law school, go to Miami.  If you want to work in Miami, you should probably pick the better and less expensive school, which is UF.  Gettingoutof's opinions are planted solely in the name of self-affirmation.  You should be aware of this by now.

Actually, this is the exact quote to which I responded:
"I don't come up with some nonsense about how I didn't want them anyway and they aren't as good as the schools I DID get into"...Wake and GMU and it isn't, you weren't talking about UM at all, you were addressing the fact that I have said that UF is not a factor in my decision making because I was accepted at better schools, nice try though.

What you just did was the message board equivalent of yelling rape, I'll take that as a complement. As for the numbers, given that you go to UF I'd assume that your GPA is probably considerably higher, given what you've tried to pass off as arguments (see above) I can't see you being an LSAT superstar.

Now that you've effectively said uncle, we can get back to the topic, however I think you are fooling yourself as to whether anyone cares anymore, I think the OP has as good of an idea as she could get from an LSD thread. In case I'm wrong, I think that if you want to work in the Miami area UM affords you more opportunities, If you want to work elsewhere in FL then UF is the place to go. AJF disagrees. As I said many posts ago, the OP needs to visit both and see how she feels about the schools, they are very different.

BTW, AJF, 27 of the 48 voters on this board disagree with your analysis, goodnight.

Part 1: ?????, slow down buddy.  Assuming you are trying to say what I THINK you are TRYING to say, I was merely illustrating how I don't knock the schools that rejected me and defend the ones that are worse, but didn't reject me.  You DID, by saying UM is better than UF.  You made your UF decision relevant by talking it down even though you didn't get in, regardless of where else you DID get in.  With all of your logic, you are basically saying that because you got into wake, you have credability in bashing UF in comparison to Miami, even though UF itself rejected you...Saying the UF decision was irrelevant to you because you got into Wake is a Cop out, you didn't know what wake would say, and you clearly applied tp uf for some reason...it's not like UF was a safety school for you.

Part 2:  Your guess about the scores are close, my gpa is slightly higher than yours, 3.3.  My LSAT, slightly lower, 167.  All and all, fairly comparable.  I guess your PS just gave away what a vindictive and arrogant little person you are.  I imagine you to be something like David Spade, only even smaller, and not funny.

Had you been accepted to UF, and not Wake or Miami, you would be here bashing Wake and singing the praises of UF.  This is because you have no spine.

aaaaaaaaaaaand i'm done.  Best of luck wherever you go.  You have proven able to convince yourself of anything.  I hope someday you will show as much skill convincing judges and juries.

Somebody should have told W&M Law how difficult W&M Undergrad is!!!!!!!  That probably would have helped your chances there too!  You are pathetic, you have some sort of rationalization or excuse for everything.

Also, I thought you got rejected because you applied late? Or is it the gpa? Or is it that your zodiac didn't allign when you applied?  I'm soooooooo confused! I thought even the Harvard of the south (I'm speaking ofcourse of W&M), would give AT LEAST a B average to a hard working and deserving student such as yourself. IF ONLY you had gone to UF for undergrad, maybe then you would finally have to own up to your scholastic failures.

Without getting into the slapfight going on, UF does better in Atlanta than UM.  I went to UF undergrad and lived in Atlanta for a while and worked with a number of people in the legal field, so I've had occasion to talk to them about it when I was applying.  It is well thought of in Georgia, anyway, if you wanted a big city that wasn't Miami and that had a suburban lifestyle.

UF does allright but the competitiong from Emory and UGA is pretty stiff, AJF will tell you its only because UF grads don't like Atlanta.
