I'm also in at least one seminar that's tiny enough that the labored discussion makes me want to poke my eyes out.

i'm getting from this that people find YLS painful and boring.  accurate?

False.  This seminar kills, but I should've listened when people said to take professors, not classes.  Out of 4 classes, this is the only one I dislike.  Bad classes for sure happen, but I don't think that's particular to YLS.  Also you were probably joking, but I'm weird like that and am responding anyway.

fair enough.  are YLS students generally weird or are you just an outlier?

I would say YLS students are cooler than I feared, but you know, wouldn't say I'm an outlier.  Non-weirdos are totally overrated though.

The internet's a funny place.  You mention someone by her online handle and bam, a day later, her friend is already telling her about it.  So yes, I hear there's been some trash-talking here.  Hey dash, I still think you're cool when the fangs aren't going for my throat.  Fully willing to admit I said some obnoxious effing things, out of both ignorance and, later, spite.  I'll just say that I'm not an obnoxious person in real life, and sure, you may not believe me, but I've managed to become friends with a lot of people who knew me as nerdphanie and they seem to like me okay.  They're also surprised that I'm not a gunner, but am in fact comfortably bringing up the rear in our class.  I have neurotic moments, and my entrance into LSD happened to coincide with a big one.

As far as Yale goes, go to Yale for the P/P first semester.  For serious.  I thought they oversold it but that couldn't be farther from the truth.  I looked at the bloody mess that was my ConLaw final and had to laugh.  H/P/L for the rest is not as good, but I won't be too upset with P's across the board, seeing as H's are rare/very dependent on professors.  Also, class sizes are not small, especially first semester, but the small group is a wonderful thing.  (Denny Crane was in my small group.  He's one of my best friends here.  LSD FTW.)  I'm also in at least one seminar that's tiny enough that the labored discussion makes me want to poke my eyes out.

Oh, and YLS students don't stay up till 4:45 in the morning.  I'm kind of a freak, and am currently procrastinating some serious reading.

Thought I'd check what was going on here instead of doing work.  Morland, I am considering not reading procedure anymore.
New Haven is not so bad, though East Coast weather can just suck it.  I've already busted out a puffer jacket and a helmet-sized beanie.  But yay for free food.  I think I'm fed every night of the week once again, with many offering "non-pizza" food.

And here we thought you were too prestigious for us now.  Welcome back!

Too prestigious?  Definitely not.  Too damn busy?  Yeah.

Class has only been in session for a week and it already feels like I've been here for a month or longer.

You get used to it.  :::sigh:::

I hope it just gets easier.

Getting used to it may not be a good thing, in the same way that "getting used" to loud noises just means you're going deaf.

Until it does get easier, I won't really be posting too much around these parts.

I see you, Denny.  This is why you skipped out on hot tomatoes, is it?

Where should I go next fall? / Re: Stanford
« on: May 10, 2007, 06:26:25 AM »
Who would take Stanford over Harvard anyway?  I'm amazed they dupe 150 people a year to pick them over H and Y.  The weather is better, but I can't think of a single other advantage, especially over Yale.

Stanford rules.  I'd take it over Harvard for the smaller class size, the weather (yes, big plus), and the very relaxed people.  The Bay Area is also a pretty happening place right now for anyone interested in all this computer/tech business (not me).  I don't think you have to be nuts to make that choice.

I've only read Disgrace and Elizabeth Costello by Coetzee, but I recommend both.  Elizabeth Costello is a little less stab-yourself-in-the-eye-to-make-it-stop depressing.

Congrats on your decision!  I was one of the ones who said go to Penn, but that was contingent on your not liking Harvard too much.  I stand corrected and I'm sure you'll love it there!

Geez this thread grew fast!  And I got a few shout-outs, too!  Thanks  Denny and other person towards beginning of thread :-*

1.) Most likely to succeed: Mike245 and all my future LSD classmates who I met and liked
2.) Least likely to succeed: I want to say Judge Smails, but slimy people tend to do well in the world as long as they're lame enough to pour their hate out on the internet...meh.  Screw logic and long live karma.  So Judge Smails after all.
3.) Smartest: Mike245
4.) Funniest: Cady, demingh, dashrashi and H4CS when they're being mean to people who aren't me.
5.) Best looking from self tar pic (Male or Female): Gengis, jillibean
6.) Best/funniest/smartest Troll: Shivestein
7.) Worst/stupidest Troll: Anyone with XOXO in his/her name
8.) Most annoying: Julie Fern
9.) Most sexually deprived: Yo Da Blue and Hank
10.) Future SCOTUS justice: Denny Crane.  Popular choice, but it makes so much sense.

Someone posted his email and phone # on craigslist...don't know if it's real, but here's the email: roypearsonjr@verizon .net.  I'm tempted.  What a f*cking lunatic.
