Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Cornell or job?
« on: February 15, 2014, 08:48:48 AM »
My options are

Cornell Law School- I have 5k in debt from undergrad. I will be getting a external scholly for 30k a year. But other then that it'll be loan time. I don't have much interest in BigLaw especially long term as I would love to do criminal law or actually help people. But I also don't want to be scrapping by all my life with 120k+ debt following me. Quite frankly I now I will be probably be near the bottom of the class so BigLaw might not be an option either.

My other option is a 34k job with good benefits(federal) and potential to make 65k after 8-10 years.

Other factors are that I currently live with parents and would like to get out and be independent asap(psycho mommy). I don't like the prospect of 100k+ debt staring me down as major debt scares me. Nevertheless it is hard to say no to an ivy league JD.

An advice, tips, insights would be appreciated, thanks!

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: Unlv or Hawaii
« on: February 15, 2014, 08:24:33 AM »
Personally I would go with Hawaii as it might get tough trying to break into the market with a UNLV degree. Maybe try and get residency by moving there first and working for a year but that is also risky as Hawaii is expensive. But if Hawaii is where you want to be then go! Best of luck!

Thanks for the help, sorry about the delayed thank you haha.

Law School Admissions / Re: Graphic designer applying for law school

Well I'm no expert so don't quote me or anything, but it is my understanding that if you do well on the LSAT and GPA is good,  your major isn't a huge deal. I am not sure on how the other factors will come into play for you. But I don't think a graphic design major will hold you back. Hope this has been helpful.

158 LSAT, 3.2 GPA
Native American with paperwork to prove
Business MGMT major
Went to George Fox University, (small Quaker school in Oregon, regarded as a good regional school, but certainly not anything spectacular on national scope)
Decent recommendations letters from some professors

I would really like to go to American as it seems like a place I would really love and DC attracts me very much.

Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance

Personally I'd take it, worst thing is you cancel it and retake, then come next time you'll know what its like.

Choosing the Right Law School / What schools am I looking at?
« on: March 20, 2013, 02:24:20 PM »
LSAT- 158
GPA- 3.2

George Fox University (small Quaker school in Oregon)
Business Management Major
I'll be graduating fall 2013, and applying for fall 2014

Extracurricular- not much, just some volunteer work and intramural sports lol, I might go overseas this summer and do some stuff this summer though.
Letters of Rec- nothing special, some professors and former businessmen, I might be able to get one from a former CFO of a major tech company as he's the brother of the dean of the Business department at my school, but I'm not going to bank on it.

I am 1/4 Native American and enrolled with a tribe and have documentation to prove it, if that helps at all.

Basically I'm wondering what are my best options? I would prefer somewhere upper midwest, east coast, or southwest, but I am not deadeset on any geographic area. Basically my main concern is getting a decent job when I graduate.

Thanks for any help! Let me know if you need me to clarify anything.
