as someone who turned down GW for Fordham, i would think they're more or less peer schools.

General Board / Re: writing competition dilemmaDilemma please help

It's the international law journal. I just don't think I can finish by tomorrow night, unless I stay up all night, in which case my terrible note will not get me law review and I may end up with nothing.

General Board / writing competition dilemmaDilemma please help

I'm really confused about what to do. At my school, if you're selected for this human rights fellowship you have the option of doing separate bluebooing competition where you are basically guranteed a spot on a secondary journal, but then you can't compete in the unified writing competition for law review. I've been trying to finish the unified writing competition, but i'm nowhere near done. I need to finish a 10 page note by Thursday as well as 17 page blue booking excercise. I started the bluebooking excercise and gave up out of frustration and now i'm trying to write the note and have about 2 pages so far without the citations. It's so easy to throw in the towel, and just quit right now and do the other competition. I keep thinking even if I somehow complete this note, there is no telling what my grades will be this term, and if I'll even qualify for law review (you need to be in the top 1/3 to even compete, i'm currently in it but likely won't be once con law goes up) Thoughts? throw in the towel?

Here is the email I got from the editor:

"you will be given preferential treatment (ie - better odds) if you decide
to participate in the blank  writing competition. However, by
competing in this process, you forfeit the right to participate in the
Unified Writing Competition (UWC). Therefore, if you would also like to be
considered for another journal such as Law Review you should participate in
the UWC.

In all honesty, we set this policy to attract blanks with a strong
desire to be on the journal (as opposed to simply handing positions out).
So, if you make a good faith effort, chances are you will make the cut.

Thoughts?

This thread scares me.  I accepted a PI position doing public interest immigration work this summer (1L). While I'm not certain I want to go down the big law route. I certainly want to keep it as an option. Will this summer scar me for big law interviews? I don't want to close any doors.

1L job search / Re: just how bad is the 1L job market?
« on: March 17, 2009, 11:59:58 AM »
hey guys, i currently have an offer from PI organization that I really like doing immigration and asylum work. i have request from an state judge to come in for interview and i'm hesitant to go. my school has a rule that if you get an offer from a judge you must accept.

my concern is what would look better for OCI this fall or will it even matter? Thoughts?

No interviews at the NYU fair after submitting 19 applications. I am so discouraged.  Is it too late to start applying to judicial internships?

« on: January 26, 2009, 11:41:17 PM »
So I'm A 1L at a top 30 school. I still haven't gotten any interviews yet from any of the PI organizations I applied to so far and i'm getting really nervous. I think I have an ok resume, so im not sure what the problem is. Please help! Also as my grades were just ok, should i be sending them unless they're explicitely requested?
