Where should I go next fall? / Re: Harvard 2L Taking Questions

Why would you have picked UVA over Harvard?

Where did I say I would have?  UVA was my #2 choice, mostly because they offered some money and I liked the school.  Many of my friends at Harvard would gone to UVA if they hadn't gotten in at HLS.

But not as nice as Massachusetts.

But you're not looking at Boston firms?  Or is that just not next week?

Nah, Boston has spectacular falls, but it is quite miserable for a native Southerner from mid-January to mid-May.

How crazy is your interview schedule for next week or whenever and what markets are you looking at?

Also hi and I think I owe you brandy and cigars even though you decided to go to HLS instead of my school.

If I recall correctly, your school deferred me!  But I will gladly take anyone's brandy and cigars.

My interview schedule for next week is pretty bad.  I am going to Houston, Austin, and Dallas ??? and will interview at nine firms.  (Actually only seven distinct firms, since I'm interviewing at two offices of a couple of firms.)

Oh yes, that's right.  Don't really know how that happened.

I hear Texas is nice this time of year.  Best of luck, though I'm sure you won't be needing it.  :)

But not as nice as Massachusetts.

what clinics are good? competitive?

As I understand it, besides the Supreme Court clinic, you get into clinics through a lottery system.  Some are more sought-after than others, but obviously you have a shot.

Do you think I can effectively protest the implementation of the "no-grades policy"  I am afraid having no grades will hurt my chances for a prestijious clerkship with the Supreme Court of the United States.

You will have to transfer to Columbia.

Hmm, having grades will only help you if they are good, keep in mind.

Oh, well, no worries...I am quite smart

Oh, well I'm not.   :(

I guess that's why you're at HLS, and why you will clerk on the Supreme Court.

guys at my high school used to clerk for the supreme court all the time

who is the most amazing professor at hls/human being you have ever met?

jack goldsmith

FALSE! Great, but not greatest

do you have another candidate in mind?

Yes.

Did you get a callback at Wachtell?

I didn't interview with Wachtell this year.  I worked at Wachtell 1L summer, and I decided not to stay in New York.  They were very sorry to see me go.
