Law School Admissions / Re: UMich WL is moving.

Email today from Dean Z!!   ;D

I got this as well.  What is your speculation on the chances?  Everyone I personally know that was on the WL got knocked off, so I'm guessing there aren't many people left on it...

Hard to say...I'm sure we won't know anything definitive until after June 15th, but the language of the email - especially where it reads "...so we have just a few strong candidates remaining..." - leads me to believe the waitlist pool is pretty small at this point.

I can only hope for the best.  UMich was my first choice going into this whole process, so I'll be pouring over my reply this evening.

Visits, Admit Days, and Open Houses / Re: Northwestern ASD

I really enjoyed the Northwestern preview weekend.  It totally reinforced my opinions of NU and helped me finally make that difficult decision to pass on some tempting scholarship offers.

And what's with some other admits in this thread being disappointed with the bar scene or feeling that other admits were not overly social?   ???    I wish we would have met up...I had a blast with everyone I met (and we definitely hit up our fair share of bars).   ;D

Thanks.  That's pretty interesting.  I'm undecided about Vanderbilt, as well.  I wasn't sure about their placement outside of the South - but it looks like a decent number of grads wound up elsewhere.  Hmmmm...

Choosing the Right Law School / Re-applying next cycle...
« on: March 19, 2008, 12:42:35 PM »
For those current students who decided to forego matriculation and re-apply in a subsequent admissions cycle...

What prompted your decision?  What aspects of your application changed (i.e. improved LSAT score, advanced degree, etc.)?  Did you feel that having applied in a previous cycle negatively impacted your subsequent application to the same school?  What advice would you have for someone considering re-applying next cycle, despite offers of admission for 2008?

Waitlisted at UPenn...  :-\

OP, UVa is fairly generous with aid, especially since they don't require need access.  I'd say see what happens with UVa aid and then send in their offer---or you can send in Duke's offer and see if you can haggle.  Mich gave me around the same amount last year, though I'm sure that had I sent in my other offers, they would have raised their offer.

Yeah, definitely wait to see what you get from UVA (unless it's getting to be too late to properly haggle) and then propose it to Michigan. I was a paltry waitlist admit last year and they were still willing to match what I had from comparable schools (I'm guessing that means T14).

If they won't match it though, and you really have no preference to where you live or work after graduation, I'd go with whatever is the cheapest T14. And that means cheapest overall, so taking into account COL and everything. But I'm very debt averse, so your priorities might be different.

Sidenote: Hi MCB! Can you believe 1L year is almost over?

DeeDee: When did you get your offer of admission from the waitlist?  I'm really hoping for some good news from UMich, but I'm wondering about timing - especially on the subject of financial aid.  Thanks!  :)
