Dear the pre-law students,

Please stop insisting that you are sooooo interested in international law. Seriously.

Every other Q at NYU ASW dealt with international law.

I can't wait until that happens at Chicago ASW. Levmore totally shut them down on it last year. And it is well deserved, as 90% of these people have no idea what they are talking about.

Hah, what did he say?  International law is for wimps?

He tried to make a bet with the person that in 5 years, they wouldn't be doing anything remotely related to "international law."

That's hilarious, levmore already gets my vote for favorite law dean.

I wonder if NYU admin ppl are reading this thread (or care if they are). This strict April 11th deposit date is pissing everyone off and really makes no sense in so many ways (no chance for appeal, 3-4 weeks before most schools' deadlines including their old deadline, and its before their last ASD). I don't expect NYU to keep its 4th spot if they keep treating their potential scholarship students this way.

yup...more venting from me, been in this mood ever since getting my NYU award.

As you guys can tell from my posts I was a bit disgruntled about my NYU Financial Aid package.  :-[

Well I called them today, and I got the same response from both Financial Aid office and Admissions office.  You can file an appeal concerning your award, but they will not be able to look at it until May at the earliest.  Therefore you have to either reject or accept their current offer by April 11 and then hope for the best in May.  But obviously there is only a very slim chance that they might reconsider your offer after you have already agreed to attend the school.

By the way, based on this information, I donít know if NYU will be very generous in terms of extending the acceptance deadline past April 11 for those of you who were hoping for this.

Add me to the disgruntled list. It is pretty ridiculous, the policy you just posted. They don't review appeals until well after the acceptance deadline. So basically the appeal is useless. If you reject the award, you wouldn't need an appeal. If you accept, what incentive do they have to adjust the amount?

Tag, but I need someone to convince me out of NYU before I put on the maize and blue.

Because you'll live in a shoebox apartment and not have enough money to really enjoy anything about the village/Manhattan. AnnArbor may not have tons of world-class entertainment, but you can at least afford a lot of what they have to offer.

I didn't see this mentioned before, but at least for my scholarship, I have to decide by April 11th. 11 days...

Also got the earlier acceptance date on my award notification. I'm sorry to vent too much but did anyone actually look at the cost of attendance (which was last year's figure, this year expect 2-4k increase) and expected contribution.

Like I know a few ppl where the expected contribution is only 1-2k (i.e. should qualify for need money) and got no money from NYU. In other words, NYU thinks its totally reasonable that a person take out 60k+ in loans per year, despite being in need.

Apparently NYU wasn't kidding about UP TO FULL TUITION when describing their Academic Scholar's Program.

I just got the IP Award...but the joke's on me. The award is just 25k over 3 years.

Edit: Clearly eliminating the interview process means this "program" is just tacking on a name to a no-named award. Oh yeah, they're giving me a shorter deadline to respond too (April 11th vs. May 4th).

Hey Glannon, another EE thinking of NYU

What firms and where did you interview (NY, Cali) for 1L? Did you need geographic ties or just mail bomb likely firms? Did they look for grades before offering?

PM me with info if you're more comfortable with that.

So, I'm in DC now... and I've gotta say, I almost forgot how much I love cities like this. DC, what I've seen of it so far, is great. Uh... oh.

DC is an awesome city. No doubt about that.

Titcr.  I'd love to be there for law school, but I don't think the awesomeness of DC overcomes the (relatively) non-awesomeness of GULC.

Same boat here, with 90k Dean's Scholarship. The idea of being in that location, surrounded by national and international institutions of power is enticing. But then I think about my job opps if I end up bottom 1/2 of GULC class, especially if the biglaw market turns south...Sucks that there is such a huge disparity between the school's stingyness with finaid and its rep/rank, if that makes any sense.
