Where should I go next fall? / International Law
« on: July 23, 2008, 10:57:25 AM »
Does anybody know which schools have good international law?  I've gotten these from different rankings:

NYU
Yale
Columbia
Georgetown
Michigan
Harvard
Texas
Berkeley
Cornell
George Washington
Northwestern
Chicago
Virginia
American
Duke
Stanford
UCLA
Iowa
Penn
Emory
Hastings
Minnesota

Does anybody know any others?  Are there any T3 schools that are known for international law?  I've heard McGeorge is good, and I suspect George Mason should be right up there as well.

Law School Applications / Academic Dismissal... how much does it hurt?
« on: April 29, 2006, 08:36:50 PM »
My freshman year of college was a bit rough, I was put on academic probation after my first semester, academic dismissal after my second semester (I took too many hours, 19...), after an appeal I was taken off dismissal (however it still shows up on my transcript) and took one summer class (Calculus) which I got a D in and was then put on a one year dimissal.  I took one semester off, then went to the local Community College for the next semester where I took 6 hours and got an A and a B.  I then went back to my University (University of Texas) and have not received less than an A since.  When I apply to law school my GPA (after redoing 10 hours from the first semester and getting all A's) will be around a 3.3 and my LSAT will be around 170.  Obviously, I am a splitter, but will the academic dismissal affect me majorly?  Here is the list of schools I'm planning to apply to (I'm casting a wide net).
American University
DePaul University
George Washington University
Northeastern University
Pepperdine University
Seton Hall University
University of Colorado
University of Connecticut
University of Denver
University of Houston
University of Iowa
University of Maine
University of Maryland
University of Michigan
University of Minnesota
University of Pennsylvania
University of Texas
University of Utah
University of Virginia
University of Wisconsin (my number one choice)
Vermont Law School

Are there any I should take off the list?  Also, I have no real work experience and no major soft factors (just a few clubs).  And, I'm not a URM.  How good are my chances?

Studying for the LSAT / Re: Diagnostic Test=163
« on: April 24, 2006, 09:29:54 PM »
163 is an excellent diagnostic score...I think on the self-tested diagnostic I took, I was at a 156. I ended up with a 163 after hard-core studying (the highest I got on practice tests was a 167).

If you don't mind me asking...what is your anticipated UGPA?

My anticipated UGPA will be around a 3.4

LSAT horror stories / Re: When to take the LSAT?

I'm taking mine in February of my junior year (that would be next February) this way I'll have time to retake it in June if I do horrible and still be able to apply EA to some schools.

Studying for the LSAT / Diagnostic Test=163
« on: April 22, 2006, 06:21:09 PM »
I'm taking my LSAT in February, and I just took my first diagnostic test.  I got a 163.  If I study, soft core for about 6 months, hardcore for the next 3, what score should I be able to get?  Also, is a 163 a good diagnostic score?

Where should I go next fall? / U of H Law
« on: April 20, 2006, 02:56:38 PM »
Hi, I'm new to this board but I'm going to start applying to law school's next year.  My question is that I have an uncle who serves on the board of directors at U of Houston Law School and is managing partner of a big law firm in Houston.  He is also a U of Houston Law School alumni (graduated with honors).  How much will this affect me if I apply to U of H?  Will this help at all?
