Incoming 1Ls / Re: Northwestern c/o 2010

BTW is anyone considering other neighborhoods (like Lincoln Park) for their 1L year, or is everyone going to pretty much stay in Streeterville/Gold Coast?

I'm hoping to stay in Streeterville/Gold Coast area, but I'm looking at Lincoln Park, Wicker Park, Lakeview, and portions of Wrigleyville for apartments. I want to stay within a five mile radius of the law school, but I also want an apartment that I'd love to stay in and can afford to stay in for at least the three years of law school (I seriously HATE moving).

1. The Giver -- One of the few books I've read that made me cry. It helped me quantify (as far as anyone can) the importance of love.

2. The Screenwriter's Workbook -- This book has helped me do my pre-writing and writing for every single one of my screenplays. Without it, I doubt I would have even finished one.

3. Gone with the Wind -- I read it (unabridged) when I was in sixth grade. After I finished, I watched the movie. It's this book's fault that I am so enamored with old movies and old movie stars, especially Clark Gable.

4. Les Miserables -- One sentence: "To love another person is to see the face of God."

5. No other book really influenced my life so much, except there are a lot that I have loved (my favorite book isn't even on this list), so I'm going to go for most influential movie in spot number five: Dial M For Murder -- This was the first Hitchcock movie I've ever seen and the first movie I ever saw to use a permutation of German Expressionism (not that I even knew what that was back then) -- the look of the courtroom scene has stayed with me forever.

I want to stay in Chicago after graduation. I have no specific interest in any area of law, but I'm not interested in academia. What draws me to Chicago (the school) is their academic philosophy. I like Northwestern because of the breadth of opportunities outside the classroom (clinics, international team projects) and the location in the city of Chicago.

So, I have basically decided to go to Northwestern, but I am a little squeamish about just withdrawing from Chicago right away. I want to make sure I'm making the right decision, so I want you all to convince me to go to Chicago by telling me why Chicago is the best. The only rule is that you can't tell me why Northwestern sucks. Only positive things about Chicago :)

Yes, Chandler!  But I only saw you at that one thing.  Where did you run off to?

I was going to come back for Rock Bottom, but like MCB wrote earlier in this thread, I ended up having dinner and then falling asleep at like 10 (and slept for 13 hours, effectively making it so I wouldn't be able to make any of the Saturday events...I was staying up north). In my defense, I had slept for a combined 12 hours over the previous 3 days. :)

just got back after having an amazing time at chicago asw (i ended up only going on friday because morning/afternoon bc i couldn't wake up for either rock bottom or the saturday stuff). i met mpark, mcb, hank, and sillyberry (although i wasn't on any of their lists  :P), and i'm a bit confused at the moment between chicago and northwestern.

i came back with the same feeling mcb did -- that the administration feels chicago students are the only ones with a true desire to study law and every other school has students that just are waiting to get out and get their cushy six figure salary. that said, the class i observed seemed really awesome and i would love to learn in the chicago environment. i'm really torn, but will hopefully have a decision made by the end of the week.

also, if you were there and didn't meet me, i was the girl who said "hi" to dean levmore before introducing myself, that prompted him to ask what part of california i was from. i was also the girl who told michael machen that he sounded like a cheerleader speaking into his bullhorn when his microphone was all weird.  8)

do you even need a paragraph?

how about: This is a letter meant to update my accomplishments and inform you of my summer plans

NYU = violets?  :P For some reason, they didn't advertise that during their admitted students day :)

:D from what I remember when I applied to NYU undergrad, their women's teams are all the Lady Violets. It feels a little redundant.

Step 1: Learn how to spell "advice"

wait...I thought step 1 was "cut a hole in a box"
