That all sounds right in line with what they'd said on the website.  Congratulations on making another cut! (although I understand it's sort of a bitter prize.) 

I can't offer any substantive guess as to how many remain or # of offers they'll make, but I remember reading that by the time they get to this point, the pool is quite small and the entire UMich admissions staff knows the waitlisted applicants off the top of their heads.  Also, I noticed that all of the orientation materials emphasize the importance of registering on time, since if we fail to do so they'll assume we've changed our minds and give our spots away. 

Here's hoping!  I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I can attest to this. I did the same thing, asked to defer off of the waitlist, and tho it took them two months to grant my request, they did it and now I'm starting next summer! I think asking to defer from the waitlist pretty much always works eventually because if you are already on the waitlist it means they want you in there but just don't have the room this year, so putting you into next year makes sense. good luck to all who are still waiting!! it CAN happen, me getting in with my low numbers proves it.

One more thing about schedules: I called to ask if you can request a particular section (because unlike you, Angelina, I'd really like to be in E or F!) but they said the answer is almost always no (they might if you had some compelling reason). They have very good reasons for not taking requests, though, so it's all good. Just thought I'd throw that out there in case anybody is wondering.

Also, FYI, I applied for the MAP loan and didn't have a problem--I signed all the promissory notes already and everything. I agree that the interest rates seem pretty shite for student loans, but interest rates are on their way up and I'm told that those rates will be looking pretty good by the time we graduate. Still, it's tough knowing that if I'd gotten my sh*t together and gone to law school a year earlier, I'd have a fixed rate of at least a couple percentage points less on the massive amount of money I'll be borrowing.

About the sections...they wrote on the admitted students site that we may receive an email over the summer sometime with a tentative section listed on it, but we shouldn't go all berserk about it because we won't find out our definite sections until orientation.

Ann Arbor is serviced by AATA (Ann Arbor Transportation Authority; city buses) and University of Michigan buses. If you're 4 miles off campus, you'll rely on AATA busing almost exclusively. AATA buses come every half hour on most routes, and every 15 minutes on more popular routes. How convenient the AATA buses are may depend on where you live exactly. I lived far off campus the last two years but was right next to a bus stop so it took me 5-10 minutes to get to school. It was kinda annoying that my bus only came every half hour, but you get it used to it I guess. Plus all buses (city and university) are free if you show your MCard.

The buses are usually 100% reliable, perhaps a few minutes late here or there, never anything terrible. My morning commute was sometimes really crowded, but it was only a matter of a few mintues. The buses are really clean and generally devoid of any really sketchy characters. They don't run past like 10PM, even on weekends (I believe) but after 5PM you can park your car in most university lots for free. I'd say a 4 mile ride would take 10-20 minutes, depending on exactly where the route was and what time of day... traffic in AA can be kinda bad.
