General Board / Law clerks in law firms
« on: June 25, 2011, 03:05:12 PM »
Hi --

When people say they clerked for a law firm after graduation (as opposed to a judge), does this mean they're basically assisting another attorney for low pay to get more training and guidance without actually taking on clients of their own, similar to what a law student does during summer employment at a firm or as an intern/extern?  e.g. researching, writing briefs, accompanying the attorney at hearings and depositions, etc.

Also, do law school grads often apply to law firms seeking a law clerk position, or is it when seeking a position as a new attorney they sometimes get offered a position as a law clerk instead?
