General Board / Re: PArt-Time Programs
« on: August 28, 2008, 09:31:59 AM »
Honestly, with the reaction to part-time programs, I'd go to a lower-ranked school and try to transfer up.  Also, you ideally need your summers to start looking for firm gigs.  So if you're working full-time and doing PT the "right" way, you are also potentially getting off track for the law school job chase.  You will find that in law school you are perpetually applying to jobs/clerkships.  But if you do PT without the FT job, you look like a slacker/backdoor to employers.

Bingo.  If there's anyway to do FT do it.

You've got to stop thinking like a businessman.  We're captive consumers and they know it.  For the record I just got my grades.

With two years at FSU I can't see the extra 20k for Emory.  Go with GSU my friend.

Quite frankly if you're sure you want to work in Atlanta GSU is the place to be.  Most of the people I know who graduated from GSU work at Alston, Kilpatrick, and K&S.  I know a few Emory graduates who felt Emory's name carried more weight outside of Atlanta.

Doesn't FSU hold a special interviews just for the Atlanta market.

He had zero background in International law but he was a whiz at transactions.  After he was hired the company took a lot of care to bring him up to speed on German & EU issues.

Totally by chance.  He had worked at a midsized firm in another state (about 4 years) and when he started looking at moving to Atlanta he answered an ad and much to his own surprise landed the Siemens job.  I think it helped that he had taken 4 years of German in undergrad.

You might do better inhouse at a multinational.  I know someone who works at Siemens and works in Germany a few months every year.

I know several GSU grads.  Many have gone on to work at Atlanta's biggest firms.  I know one guy who went from their PT program to the biggest firm in town.  Of course most of the Emory grads I know have also gone to these firms, I would say that the big firms still go deeper into the classes of UGA and Emory compared to GSU.
