Law School Discussion

Anyone know what the numbers look like on people applying to a law school for the 2nd time (say a couple years later) after being rejected?

I continue to wait for my post-deferral response from hls and am contemplating (for unrelated reasons) doing some political work and reapplying in 2 years. I would be very interested to know if you are regarded as a fresh applicant or go into a seperate pool or just what happens. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have been amazed throughout the law school admissions process at just how much lower the standards of admission on numerical factors are for URM applicants. I would be interested to know if anyone has a good reason why AA should be based on race rather than socio-economics. It seems to me that a white child from a poor inner city family has overcome infinitely more hardship than a black one from the suburbs and a private school so I see no reason why the latter child should receive a major boost in admissions. It seems like if the bump was based on economic background and material privildge it would still help a large number of minorities without attaching the blanket stigma that if you are a minority at a top school you are not as "smart" at least on hard factors as your white classmates.

The current system seesm to stigmatize minorities and potentially give boosts where they are least needed. Namely, to those minority applicants who have already led privlidged lives and need to no additional benefits.

Well I am new to this site but decided to jump in after I joined this quite prestigious group in receiving my lovely hold letter today. I am a 3.65/175 so was not excessively surprised. Though looking over the deferrals this year compared to last year we seem to be a much stronger group.

Sending lors and a letter telling them about all my fascinating  activities. I do think spending too much time on a "Why Harvard" essay is an error. I did a why harvard paragraph but I mean, come on, they know why you want to go to Harvard. Its Harvard. Trying to find some obscure program and emphasizing your interest in it will sound absurd. As if you are going to pass up Harvard for Northwestern because, gosh darn it, NU just has that excellent environmental recovery litigation program. I think you tell them more reasons why they should want you and then maybe explain why you know Harvard is the best. BSing them will probably sound obvious. My two cents as a LSD rookie.
