Thanks for the post, I really appreciate it.  I realize there had been some discussion about CW in the past, but I was looking for a little MORE.  Anyways, it's good to hear your comments, as well as your other post I just read.  Thanks :)

Where should I go next fall? / Re: CU vs DU
« on: February 04, 2010, 12:22:04 PM »
Are you from Colorado?  I have lived in Denver for 3 years, working in the legal field, and would by FAR say CU.  Not only is it cheaper (unless DU is giving you alot of $$), but it is all in all, a far better school in rankings and otherwise. DU is not a bad choice, especially if you stay in Denver, but it gets really old hearing that EVERY attorney went there- I attribute this partly to the fact that not many leave the state, probably bc it would be harder to get a job elsewhere than you would from CU, but also bc since it is IN Denver, they do have good connections.  That being said, even lawyers I work for that went there have negative things to say about it, and some wish they had not gone there.  It has a reputation of being one of those schools that if you give them the money to go there, they will let you.  They have a history of having a terrible bar passage rate as well, so keep that in mind.   I don't mean to be so negative about DU, but it is just my opinion after having lived here for a few years.. I didn't even apply there.

Denver / Re: DU Law Fall 2010 Start
« on: January 29, 2010, 01:01:16 PM »
Just thought I would give my advice as I live in Denver.  I moved here 3 years ago and graduated from college here, actually transfered out here so that I could find some internships, etc (I'm from Iowa..).  I have worked for a firm downtown for a couple years, and now currently work for an insurance company in the legal dept. Here is what I can tell you- I personally don't think VERY highly of DU, but it IS a good school, and if you want to practice in Denver after graduating,  you will have NO problem finding a job.  Denver is very largely based on DU grads, almost ALL I know went there.  CU is a better school, but I think alot of them leave the state. DU  has great connections, I would call Denver a "DU town."  So as long as you work hard to pass the bar (their passage rate is pretty terrible-but getting better..), you will be more than fine!

It's really good to hear what you think about TJ. I am interested in Cal Western (simply bc I got a great vibe from that school personally), and have heard/read many of the same things you did. I hope to come to the same conclusion in a year or two.. if you've heard the same from Cal Western students, I'd love to hear that too.. :)

Reviews, Visits, and Rankings / California Western...

Sorry to those tho read this on the "where should I go" discussion... I meant to put it on this one..

Okay, so I've read MANY other discussions and have struggled with my law school decision for some time.  I'd love any real advice, but please, no condescending comments (especially about 4th tier schools being worthless-bc I don't believe that!). I realize a 4th tier law school does have some limitations, but keep in mind, I DO NOT want any kind of "big law" career.  Also, I want to stay in San Diego, at least for 5-10 years.
My lsat was 152, and yes I know it sucks,  but it is what it is.  I took a Kaplan study course, and that is actually a decent improvement.  I am taking the LSAT again in Feb, but don't feel overwhelmingly confident it would change - or enough to matter.  LSAC GPA was 3.33.

I applied to Cal Western but have not received a decision yet.  Do you think I will get in, and ANY chance I would get ANY $$?

I used to be so concerned with rankings (I originally thought I wanted to be in Chicago, and was planning on applying to DePaul and Loyola), but now I feel like if its not a T14 or 20, it probably doesn't matter too much.  Even DePaul and Loyola probably have similar cons once you leave Chicago.. As MOST schools..

I love most of what I read/hear about the school, and if Cal West grads have a good chance at finding decent jobs in SD, then that would put me at east a bit to hear.

Can anyone give me some HELPFUL, honest advice or input about/from Cal West grads?  Thanks
