Minority Topics / Korean Adoptee in the American South
« on: May 12, 2009, 09:07:57 AM »
I've been reading around and it seems that Asian Americans are not considered URM's at top ranked schools.  That being said, I do think that I have reason to include a diversity statement, but I was wondering if it would be OK or even appropriate to mention that I am a Korean adoptee.  Not only that, but I was adopted into a low income household in Arkansas.

Now, Arkansas probably isn't as bad as some places, but there have definitely been some hard times down here.  Honestly, I was the only Asian guy in my entire city, and even though I grew up here people still stare at me every time I walk into a store or a restaurant.  It's more than a little grating.

In any case, I was wondering if this could factor into my admission at all.

Any opinions?

General board for soon-to-be 1Ls / MBA /JDquestion
« on: May 12, 2009, 09:06:49 AM »
So how does getting a 2L summer BIGLAW job fit in with a joint degree? If you go JD/MBA, you will have to go another year to graduate. Do firms hire you for 3L summer work with the intention of you comming aboard after the 4th year for the MBA? Or do most JD/MBA's not go into Biglaw and are more concerned with getting into Business. Wht sort of jobs are out there for a JD/MBA?

Since you are in the exact opposite spot, I would go w/ Nova. Very close in rankings, both have brand new buildings, both have plenty to offer aside from school, but for half the price it's hard to turn down Nova.At some point in my early career I do plan to move back to CA, but I would consider working in the East for a couple years after graduating.Just to through some figures out there, it would cost me $165K to attend Villanova for 4yrs w/Scholarship. It would cost me $193K to attend PSU for 4yrs. In the end we're talking $30K difference.
