General Off-Topic Board / Should I Offer Pain and Suffering? - Almost Causing Fire in Roomate's Home

I've been renting a room in a 2/2 townhome for the last couple weeks.  The owner who lives here was nice enough to let me stay week to week.   Before leaving mid-day today, I forgot that I had left the stove on.  He got home first, a couple hours later, to find thick smoke everywhere in the townhome (note: he has pets too).  Luckily, there was no fire, and everything was okay.  The only damage was to the pot and possibly the fire alarm (due to being worn out).  He ended up being extremely laid back about it.

Would you offer "pain and suffering" / "inconvenience" in addition to the actual damages?

I was the Class TA, and the Professor is the advisor for the l.s. group that
I am the President of.  I just wish there was a way to acknowledge / own the
embarrassment on my terms.

On multiple occasions during law school, the Dean provided exam taking arrangements for me
when I had extentuating circumstances.   This was within her professional role.

I am graduating now - is thanking her inappropriate?

I did not answer 60% of my exam (poor time management).

The Professor gave me the lowest possible passing grade -
I'm fairly certain that she used her leeway to not fail me.

Is there any possible cordial / thank you statement
that would be appropriate in person?   

Are these inappropriate?
 
1.  Sorry about my exam performance. I feel lucky to have passed.
2.  I feel fortunate that there was leeway for me to pass.
 
Any advice would be appreciated.
