Choosing the Right Law School / Re: UIUC vs Fordham
« on: April 11, 2009, 09:44:40 PM »
Thanks for your responses!

WSU - what is COL?

Also, I received my Fordham package today and I don't think they are offering me any money.  They usually tell you, if they are giving you anything, with the acceptance letter right?  Does anyone know Fordham's tuition for '09-'10?  I believe UIUC is $40K.

I'm also curious as to how these two schools are viewed.  I know they have the same rank, but what is the general perception on each school?

Choosing the Right Law School / UIUC vs Fordham

I am choosing between UIUC and Fordham, both are ranked #27.  I can see myself practicing law in either Chicago or New York.  I received some $ from UIUC, but not sure for Fordham.  Money will certainly be a factor in my decision.

I am torn between the big city vs. the collegiate feel of a big ten campus.  Thoughts?

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: UC Davis v. UC Hastings

Make sure to send in your LOCIs. I was waitlisted at both Hastings and Davis (3.52, 163...and I applied at the deadline which was stupid), and when each called me off their waitlist, they both referenced my LOCIs.

Excuse my ignorance but what is LOCIs?  When you say applied at the deadline, do you mean you sent in your application the day before it was due?  I'm getting close to "at the deadline" and I was wondering if I should take into account that it takes 2 weeks for everything to process to the school - does that make my application late if I send it on the day of the deadline, but they don't actually receive it until 2 weeks later...

Law School Admissions / LOR Question

If I have my two reference letters set up through the LSDAS LOR, will the reference letters be automatically sent with the application to the schools that I apply to?

Also, if I am sending my applications electronically, what does it mean when the school wants you to "certify your signature"???  Is there something I'm supposed to print and send in?

I plan to check out both schools (at least take a precursory glance) over the MLK day weekend. I realize that I won't get to see much during the weekend but I figure I can always go back if I get accepted to one, the other, or both.

What's the verdict?

Can you speak to scholarship opportunities at Fordham - as a private school, is it difficult to get one?  Is it usually based on merit?  How much do they usually offer?  Does anyone get a full ride?

I am debating between their day and evening program.  I would like to work and support myself through school, but not sure how I would survive grade-wise working 9-5, then school at night.  When do you find time to study?

Also, the night classes are smaller - does that affect chances of getting in despite the numbers (LSAT/GPA) being lower?

Thanks - this thread has been very helpful!

Law School Admissions / Re: Silly addendum questions

It was a 7-point difference, and it's still not that high.  But I wanted to explain that I was working full time and what I did differently.  I heard that it's a good idea to explain since they will want to know anyways.

Thanks and gluck - I'm still working on my apps and hoping to have something in before Xmas.

I will read it if you can read mine (once it's ready...)

Law School Admissions / Silly addendum questions
« on: November 28, 2008, 05:21:53 PM »
Is there a specific format for it?  Do you just write "Addendum" for the title and a paragraph or two essay style under?  If you want to explain more than one thing, do you do an Addendum 1, 2... or do a separate document for each?

Not sure how to start mine, but I want to explain why I took the LSAT twice...
