One great thing about Penn - I was poking around craigslist last night, just to see what sort of stuff was out there in terms of housing and I was BLOWN AWAY by the prices!! Maybe I am just used to Boston's real estate prices, but the places I found on craigslist were unbelievably cheap. i mean there was some stuff available for less than $300 a month, and it didn't look ready to be condemned or anything. for $500 you can really live it up.  (with a roommate, of course).  if you want to live alone, you can get a decent place for the price i'm paying to live with 3 people in Boston. I'm psyched.

now, i wonder what the deal is with Civ Pro and why it's not on our schedules yet

edit: for a second there, i was all excited about not having any class until 10:30am, but then i realized that CIV PRO will go there  :(

fwiw, I got the 2.0 GHz version, with 1GB of RAM and 80Gs of hard drive space.  But I'm a bit upgrade-crazy.  I did the same sort of upgrades with my current iBook and I'm fairly certain they haven't been making a difference (I've only used up about half of the hard drive space so far.)  I guess I like the sort of "security blanket" feeling it gives me.

That makes only a limited amount of sense to me; I assume its a Mac thing.   :D

it only makes limited sense to me, too  ;)  the only thing i'm not sure about is that 6pin firewire cable. i wonder if i have to buy that separately?

oh, awesome.  my macbook came but it's at my parents' house so i wont see it until this weekend.  i had no idea there would be a program built in. sounds great!  do i need any special cables or something? or is everything i need in the box?

what laptops have you seen for $500-$800 cheaper than a MacBook with truly comparable specs? That would mean getting a computer for about $300-$600, maybe $800 if you we're talking about a MacBook with added options.  I can't imagine getting a quality PC for those prices.
