What would be a good way for me to begin learning legal writing? I know that legal writing is completely different than the type of writing I did for my Political Science degree. Are there any books or classes I should take over the summer so that I know what the hell I'm doing legal writing wise before my 1L year? Thanks

I got something in the mail today advertising this program. Getting a taste of what law school will be like could be advantageous, but there are some obvious red flags. I've heard that similar programs like Law Preview were lemons that exist solely to cash-in on 0L insecurity. Does this seem legit or should I not waste my $50 (which is really cheap compared to similar programs)? 5

OK, thanks for the advice I've received thus far. I just wanted to gauge the general study habits of law school students. I was unfortunately forced to go to a TTT state school because it was all I could afford. As such, many of my classmates were more interested in NFL games and stuff than discussing Kant and other subject matter, so I didn't feel at all challenged in UG.

Hi all, I'll be starting school in the fall. I want to buy different hornbooks and other study aids now so that I'll have stuff ready for my 1L classes. How many extra books would you all recommend for each of the 1L classes? I know in LSC, the author recommended that people only buy 1 extra book due to time issues preventing people from using more than 1 book for each subject.
Also, which book(s) should I buy for each 1L class? Thanks in advance 7

I think I might be able to give you some perspective on what activities you are able to do. I play some video games on the weekend, but my main leisure activity is my Muay Thai classes. The place I train at holds classes 3 days a week with an open practice on Saturdays. Depending on my schedule, those would probably have to go the way of the Dodo. 8

I've heard that many law students spend 5-8 hours a day studying (not including in-class time). Is this an accurate estimate for the time required for most law students to spend studying? I'm curious about this because I want to start planning ahead so that I'll know which of my leisure activities I need to sacrifice for the greater cause. Thanks in advance

They show you people walking around the law school..and you can see what people are wearing. I would also suggest sitting in on a class if you can. If you were confused about what the dress code is, then I don't think you've done enough research on what you're getting yourself into. Not trying to be a (needle) prick on purpose. Just saying.. Don't worry about being a prick. I have a stiff upper lip and sensed no buttholery in your post. I watched videos and look at school publications, but I didn't want to make any assumptions based on just my legwork. I'm going to try to sit in on classes, but I'm a teacher so I won't really have time to do so until my Spring Break (1st week of April). Thank you for responding to my question. |
