some great places are the Consulate and Van Ness which are right on the same block as the law school. They run upwards of $1500+/month for a studio and $1700+/month for a one bedroom. Look on Connecticut Ave for some places because thats also within walking distance. If that doesn't work look for places that are located within close proximity to the redline. That way you'll be able to just take the train to school. Hope it helps!

I may or may not go to the reception. I don't think I will have the time this semester and I've already attended a blsa event spring 2008 semester and its a nice group of ppl. As far as apartment goes, i've been looking for places since I knew i wanted to go to Howard and I've had the exact same problem! lol so unfortunately I may think about staying in Maryland and finding a place that is located near the redline. I also don't want to have to change my tags over to DC cuz my car is not under my name. So idk, its best to look for roomates asap so that the costs will be split!

I actually did get that invitation, but since I"m not planning on going to Maryland I'm more than likely not going. Are you going to go? Have you started looking into housing options?

I'm definately leaning towards Howard now because of the experience that everyone talks about. Other schools its just going to law school, but for Howard graduate students it seems like an experience, one that is nurturing and memorable. Plus the contacts we can potential make and jobs that we can potentially acquire are exponentially greater than the opportunities afforded by other, larger schools like UMD. I Know i appreciate the HBCU environment because i went to Hampton U my freshman year in college and I still go back to visit and get nostalgic about my experience there. I'm still not sure though... I hate indecision  :-[
Maryland has not offered me any money thus far so I may not have a major bargaining chip in that regards. ::)

Yah!!! ;D I'm attracted to howard for its legacy and commitment to creating social engineers, but my parents and a lot of other people are really pushing UMD because its such a good school. Howard has been my number one for the past 1 plus and i'm only now really considering Maryland cuz they accepted me. I've sat in on classes at both schools and the Howard atmosphere was the most desirable (people are friendly, feels like a family) and UMD the environment was not bad, it was diverse, similar to UMD College Park, but the classes were dry and boring! lol. So I honestly am unsure until April 15  :-\ I wish i got some money from one of them to make the decision easier!!!

I'm torn between Howard and Maryland. I've always wanted to go to Howard for the environment and concentration in civil rights law, plus the network of people that it provides and job opportunities for the student body. Its also extremely inexpensive and I've heard great things about it. Maryland also accepted me and its a tier one school, its close to home and its a really good school and it also has really good programs. So I don't know what to dooooo!!!!!! What do you think??

I know this is probably really late but I am trying to go to HUSL in fall of 2009. I'm writing my personal statement and I was wondering about the atmosphere and extracurricular activities? is it cutthroat like some like to suppose or is it really the nurturing environment that you see everyday? Also I've been to an HBCU for undergrad and i understand the frustrations with the schools, I was wondering is the experience different? :o I've researched the HELL OUT OF HUSL! so I'm absolutely positive that I want to go there, but i'm wondering about some of the things they dont tell you..the bad parts, living situations, are there good places to live, are the professors helpful and it the experience worth it?
