I went with a 12" and I love it.  If I'd been planning to get rid of my desktop, though, I probably would have picked a 14".  Size and weight are huge considerations for me, but peering at a 12" screen 100% of the time would probably give me eyestrain.

Thanks, er, Alec is it?  I was obviously looking in the wrong place.  I'm still missing the student health history form, though.  Sometimes the mail delivery around here leaves something to be desired.

I don't have anything worth insuring.  All my "luxury" items are electronics, and that stuff depreciates so fast I think I'll take my chances.

On a separate subject, has anyone else not received the immunization forms?  They don't seem to be downloadable from anywhere, which surprises me.  I guess I just need to call the health center.

Depends on how much stuff you have, I suppose.  I'm planning on moving in the day before orientation.  I can't imagine a smallish apartment taking more than two days to move.  One day to move heavy things, one day to unpack.  I'm not sure what good a hotel stay would do you, except that if you're traveling from a long distance, it'd let you get a good night's sleep and start in early on the 12th.

I had a tough time finding a sleeve to fit my laptop, too.  I've got a Dell 710m-- also 12" with a battery that sticks out the back.  I ended up buying a sleeve on eBay.

I reasoned that even if it ended up being too small, I wouldn't be out much money.  Luckily for me, it fits perfectly.  :)  I don't think I'll buy a fancy laptop bag, though.  My backpack from undergrad has a marvelous smaller compartment that's a perfect fit for my laptop in its sleeve.

Law School Applications / Re: Getting into NYU from NYU

I haven't heard anything one way or the other about how NYU regards its undergrads.  Going strictly by the numbers, I'd say you have a reasonable (but not great) chance at NYU.  If you feel you could do better on the LSAT, you might try taking it again in October.  It looks like schools will be considering only the higher score next year, and just a few points could make all the difference for you.  (NYU's LSAT 25th/75th percentile numbers are 168/172, I believe.)

As for other schools to apply to... well, Columbia's a no brainer.  If you definitely want to stay in NYC for law school, Fordham and Cardozo are good choices.  If you don't mind spending 3 years somewhere else, however, and want to come back to NYC after graduation, I'd recommend blanketing the T14.  You'll get in somewhere, and a JD from a top school will take you anywhere you want to go.

Well I think they will aggressively attack inflation by raising interest rates, although there will be a limit to this.  All I'm thinking is that since we can finance a different way each year, it may be worth doing private loans this year because prime would have to go up pretty drastically pretty quickly to make private worse than Grad Plus.

I agree.  Plus, wasn't there some kind of problem with the House and Senate passing two different versions of the bill authorizing Grad Plus?  I'm wary of the program simply because it's new.  Sort of like the rule about not buying a car in its first model year.

Also, I have an avatar now.  Yay me.

What is the Grad Plus interest rate?  Isn't it something nuts like 8.5%?

Yeah, plus there's a 3% origination fee.  Blech.  There are no aggregate limits to how much you can borrow, though, so there might be an advantage if you already have crushing undergrad debt.  I'm not sure.

I think it all comes down to what you think interest rates are going to do during the next ten or so years.  Me, I figure that rising fuel costs are going to be playing merry hell with the economy, so interest rates probably won't get much higher than they are right now.  I could be wrong, though.  Bernanke seems a bit more aggressive than Greenspan, and you'd need a crystal ball to accurately predict what the economy's going to do.

Yes, a girly avatar is a good idea.

Sure, but I'm not hot enough to use a pic of myself.  That leaves me with... what?  Kittens?   ::)

No way man, I am way worse.  Earlier this year I made a photocopy of a Village map and plotted all the ATMs and branches in the area.

That's awesome.  Did you come to any conclusions?

It occurs to me that people might not realize that I'm a chick.  :D  I need a girly avatar!
