Current Law Students / Re: Can someone tell me how RA gigs work?

Many professors ask their top students to be RAs.  Others do send out a school-wide call for RAs, where you can submit your resume, etc to get the position.  I don't think it is right to put a particular professor on the spot about being an RA.  If they want you to work for them, they will ask you.

The Illinois State Bar requires you to submit a Character and Fitness application by March 1 of your IL year.  Maybe OP is in Illinois?

Current Law Students / How much do federal clerkships pay?
« on: June 18, 2008, 07:29:09 AM »
Does anyone know?

If you have done one, was it easier to get a job after you had the clerkship?

Sometimes schools offer a course in civil procedure tailored to your state.  You should see if they offer a course like that.

Current Law Students / Re: between two schools...

Kent is about 20 schools higher on the US News and World Report rankings than Loyola.  But, Kent doesn't have as many journals as Loyola does.  However, Kent's journal takes top 7% and Loyola's law review takes top 5%, so it would likely be harder to get into Loyola's top journal.  According to NALP, Kent has a higher percentage of graduates that go into public interest law (about 1% more, which is significant becuase not many people go into public interest).

I think Kent has an overall better reputation than Loyola.  But, what I don't know, and what maybe someone here could help with, is what is OCI like for either school?  Do many public interest positions come to OCI at either school?  Has anyone participated in any of the public interest clinics?

I'll be taking the bar in February.  Does anyone have any suggestions of what classes in school are a must to take for the bar exam?

Where do you want to practice DUI law?  I worked with a solo DUI attorney in the Chicago area and could answer any questions you may have.

examples and explainations and the glannon guide to civil procedure multiple choice questions.  If you do all the questions in both books you'll do fine.

Job Search / Thinking Aboug Graduating a Semester Early
« on: January 29, 2008, 11:32:02 AM »
I'm thinking about graduating a semester early and was wondering if anyone is doing that right now.  Are there any issues I might not know of now, like character/fitness and bar applications?  Do you think graduating early is a good idea?

I liked his letter.  Does no one notice it is a parody of all the horrible rejection letters we get from "Law Firm LLP"?!?!  Very clever.
