Job Search / Re: How to find biglaw job? (No OCI interviews)
« on: August 19, 2008, 05:48:31 PM »
YellowBrickRoad PM sent, please reply.

The advice from all of yall is great. Now the question is how do I go about finding "mid-law"/"small-law" firms for corporate work whether it be M&A or Tax or Transactional? Are "boutique firms" out of my league also?

It's good to be realistic of chances and choices out of "tier 2" schools with non-top notch grades. I will have a fresh GPA so that is always a good thing. How do I go about finding mid-law and small firms that do corporate work? Is it a realistic to trade up or go in-house after working mid-law or at a small firm that does corporate work?

Thanks for your guys help so far.

Job Search / How to find biglaw job? (No OCI interviews)

Just like many other people I received no interview from OCI. For someone that wants to get into BigLaw what should we do from now till the end of hiring season(when is that?) to try and atleast get some interviews. I would also like to say that I am not in the top 25% so it gets harder for me and I am at a "Tier 2" school now(transfer) in biglaw market. I wouldn't even mind Corporate Mid-Law if there is a chance I could eventually move up to "biglaw". Thanks in advance for your input/advice.

Few questions. I haven't started yet but do you guys think its too late to apply? I want to apply to SDNY USATO, NYC DA, Queens DA office. Also how do you guys go find judges and target them for summer clerkship? What is the method you go by doing it and how do you know if they have available summer clerkship positions?

How many people do you need to get signed up to get a course fee waiver as a rep? Are there any other incentives for doing this?

Transferring / Re: stuck at Cooley, want to transfer, few questions.

That doesn't help you to not have pluses...the ranking in your class is all that matters.  There's no difference if you are Top10% and 3.0 or Top 10% and 3.7.  Top 10% is what matters.

Work hard and keep your eye on the ball.  I transferred from a different T4 and made it to a T1.  At my new school there are 5 or so Cooley students so it is possible.

good luck.

UIUC or a T14 or t10 school?
