Acceptances, Denials, and Waitlists / Re: U of Chicago waitlist

Do you have any sense as to how big the waitlist is or how much action it sees.  I know a few people that have got on it in the passed years, as a matter of fact two of the three people that I know that went recently got called off the waitlist in June.  Maybe thats a good sign.  From the letter it sounded like it was less about scores now as it was up to demographics, what do you think?

If you want to work in the east gmu might be a better idea but if you want to work in the west BYU is a better school, not to mention the price difference.  Teh problem with BYU is that it is so cheap that they attract people that could get in to much better schools so you are competing much harder for a ranking. and ranking matters when you are looking for a job but I don't think that BYU's ranked above GMU for nothing.  I think it is a great school and had a hard time turning them down, you cant get a better environment and oyu get your own carrel for studying in the library, how can you beat that.

I think they overplayed the waitlist card this year.

It has officially started.  I guess at UVA they weed out from the bottom and accept from the top until the very last day and then they put the ones still left in the stack in the waitlist.  I was put in the general non-resident waitlist, the priority non-res has about a hundred and I am not sure about the res waitlist.  Appearantly they had over 4600 apps for the 200 non-resident spots open, over 30% higher than last year. They also said that the averages for those they admitted was 3.71 and 170.  The letter I got said they put me on the list but don't wait by the phone, we won't be calling.

Does anyone have any word on the chances of getting off the U chicago waitlist, or is anyone on it?  I was put on it 3 weeks ago and I am trying to make some decisions, does anyone know the average size of the waitlist? or any info at all about Chicago.
