If the BPPVE does indeed sunset.  Tehn the California State Bar itself may take over the regulation of these schools.  In fact the Bar website even has a draft of the proposed new rules.  There are few major changes in requirements.  Here is the link"

I will jump into the fray as well.  Perhaps the best articulated complaint against DL is that there isn't any networking with peers.  There actually is quite a bit. We meet for classes and discussion online with a professor in real time. There are also small groups of people who may meet in person to study together. I also get quite a bit of help from attorney friends.   DL students, at least at NWCU, have an letter from the school requesting library priveleges at law libraries.  I have never had any trouble using any of the libraries at law schools in the Bay Area.

I think many on this board are tired of people who are not students at DL schools posting here with the intention of degrading DL.  If you don't like DL degrees, fine, don't get one.

You would most likely be able to transfer from a DL school to another Cal Bar school.  There are plenty of them in CA. If you're in the bay area, check New College or The San Francisco Law School.   As the above post mentioned, you probably won't be able to transfer to an ABA school

Though I plan to work in Public Interest law, I think you have a great idea.  If you are successful and the firm grows, you could even offer internships and clerkships to DL students.  Best of luck!!!!

yes, many do.  Google will tell you about several. Among the most notable is James Gilleran, former head of the Federal Ofiice of Thrift Supervision.  Most seem to practice in CA in finance or PI law.

As another grown up  (hey! When did that happen? I don't recall signing a consent...)  With a career and commitments, DL is the only way for me.  I loked at almost all the DL schools, and it came down to Concord or NWCU.  They have similar pass rates on the baby and general bars. I was able to track down practicing alumni of both.  With most things being equal, it came down to cost.  NWCU is only 3,000 a year.  Much less than concord.

Distance Education Law Schools / Internships? Summer or otherwise.

Hi all. I was wondering if anybody knew of internships that are open to students at distance learning law schools.  I suppose summer internships are an option, but because distance learning programs continue through the summer to meet the 48 week requirement, one would have to keep studying during the internship.  Any suggestions?

I'm looking for people who attend or have attended NWCU law school. I am  enrolling in a distance learning JD program to complement my nursing career and political activism. Does anybody here have any tips on the first year?
