Title: T3 & T4 Acceptances and Rejections 2008
Post by: ----- on December 01, 2007, 12:27:52 PM
This was a 300+ pg thread last year and was very informative the year before that.

So let's continue the tradition.  Has anyone heard from schools yet?

** Can someone make this a sticky???

So let's continue the tradition.

I like the way you think! On, brave LSDers!

Oh, and I applied to MSU and Wayne in-state (MI) and expect to hear from them soon - I see at least one acceptance to each school on LSN, both with mad $$$.

Full ride me, guys!

Got my acceptance from Wayne last week, so you should be getting one soon. No mention of scholarship $ though...perhaps that comes later?

Haha - are you from Michigan?  I was born there but I'm now a Bostonian  :)

Born and raised - I need a change of scenery though so I'm applying mostly out of state, but I had to throw some apps at UM, MSU, and Wayne to please the family and see what kind of $$$ I can get.

I love Boston...do you think you're gonna stay in the area or are you taking flight in the near future too?

I know last cycle a lot of people got scholarship and "freebie" offers in March, especially at MSU - I would suspect that the same will be true for most this cycle too.

I'm married so I'm trying to stay in the area, but I'm applying to some out of state schools on the sly. o_O  I know my husband would go anywhere for me but he'd prefer to stay around here.

I've got the same kinda thing going on...my fiancee's whole family lives in MI so she certainly wouldn't mind sticking around, but she already told me that she'll move to whatever school we decide is best for us. After reading the "SO affecting your decision" thread and seeing how hard it is for some others, I really appreciate her understanding attitude.

HEY aLL!! I'm from this thread 2 years ago!! This is and always will be my favorite thread. It is you all who the elitests may look down upon, yet they dont' know what you are capable of!! I'm top 1/3 of my class. I know a lot about applying to law schools, I applied to over 50 within a 2 cycle period. Chcek out my list for my second cycle on LSN, it was a lengthy. The process was both stressful and exciting. Good luck to you all, be sure to check out my law school. It is known for accepting students who normally would not have a chance!! They have a non-conditional summer program that lets you start and earn 2 credits b/f school. http://www.indylaw.indiana.edu/ and it is not only for minorities... There are two different programs... Cleo for minorities and the schools special summer class for both here is the link for the summer programs...http://indylaw.indiana.edu/admissions/profiles.htm
I'm always working with the admissions committee and know a decent bit about what they look for. Anyway not to stop trolling for my school.... haha..
If any of you all have any questions about what law school is like period, don't hessitate to ask. Finals are starting soon, and i'll be studying all the time again, but would look forward to a break to help any of you all that I can. I wish you the best of luck this cycle, I know you all will do great!! Take care!
Ciao Amigos!!

In at Washburn and Tulsa.

I don't want to sound like a homer for Washburn, but...
If you hit above a 155, Washburn auto admits...go look at their stats.  Of course, it's in Topeka, but with in-state tuition by 2nd semester, if you want to do public service, I have to think it's the deal of the century.

Haha if I check my mail late in the morning and there's nothing in there I usually end up checking later in the afternoon in case the mailman hadn't delivered to my apartment yet :-[.

I have no idea what I'm going to do over winter break though! I might come back every weekend for a quick check (my hometown is only about 2 hrs away from my school).

Hey, I applied to Kentucky too... they sent me an email saying I was complete, but that's all the correspondence I have ever received from them. Looking at last year's cycle on LSN though, I think they take a while to get back with responses.

ooo i like this thread :) i know i don't have a large number of posts under my wing, but i read this board like it's my job....

I applied to Suffolk as well- I haven't heard ANYTHING from them..not even telling me my application was received...should I call??

I applied to all my law schools the week of Thanksgiving...and I'm somewhat praying I'll get an acceptance letter before I leave college for winter break (so I have until Saturday) otherwise I'm going to be anxious and crazy my entire winter break.  My boyfriend's going to be checking my mailbox everyday for me because I don't konw if I trust the forwarding mail service or not, stupid I know.

i also applied to Vanderbilt and University of Tennessee...I didn't put them on there because a) i want to go to UTK so bad that I'm afraid of jinxing it, don't ask.. and b)if I get rejected at UTK, I feel like moping in my sorrow in a hidden room for a while before I broadcast it on LSN.

And thanks cosmo- I applied about a week after you, so that gives me hope.. otherwise I'll be calling them next week!!

School's going fine.  Two finals down and two to go.  I'm having trouble adjusting to the writing more than anything.

I'm happy with my decision to go to WVU.  I chose it over Toledo for a few reasons, but the most important were the in-state tuition and I wanted to work in WV after graduation.

Good luck with your finals, also.  It sounds like you're doing very well for yourself.  Take care.

I applied to Suffolk on 11/18 and went complete 12/06

Have you visited Suffolk? What is it like? I will most likely apply. I heard it is super competitive because of their grading curve and that they have large classes. In addition, I heard a degree from Suffolk is respected in the Boston area, but it will be hard to go far away from the school with it.

Good Suffolk info, Thanks!!!! What about New England vs. Northeastern??? I know Northeastern is more respected, but it doesn't give out grades and they have a co-op program. Are students who go to New England really out of luck for jobs and summer positions because of all the higher ranked schools in the Boston area?

Personally I think so... but not entirely you know NESL has been around a long time and has a decent regional rep.  I'm sure kids there get jobs but it's tough since there are so many Boston schools.  NUSL is over NESL by a lot...

Ohhhh not good for NESL. I'm sure the positions in Boston are snatched up quickly!

Anyone in here applying to California Western? They told me that I won't be complete until they get my fall semester grades. I thought that this was strange, especially coming from a T4 school. The T2 and T1's I applied to have me complete without them. Any other T4's do this?

I was accepted to Mercer Law yesterday. It's on the brink on T3 so I figured I'd post.

Congratulations!

Me? 3.6 GPA, 156 LSAT

The associate dean of U of Pacific wrote on my acceptance letter about being impressed that I was working while in school and maintaining a high GPA, so that may be something for you to play up in your essay if that also applies to you.

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately I did not work while in school. Under NCAA regulations, scholarship athletes cannot work during the academic year. But I was a defensive captain of our football team that went to two consecutive bowl games. I spent well over 50 hours of preparation per week...

Well, I think that's good enough! What the associate dean really wrote was "my ability to multi-task" while keeping high grades and since I hadn't done sports I assumed that he meant working. Good luck.

I wish Suffolk had told me why they thought so highly of me to give me an amazing scholarship... I'm curious...

Haha, I'm sure most applicants would like to know! I thought the personal note was a nice touch. Pacific was already one of my top choices, they didn't really need to convince me more anyway.

I'm so psyched about Suffolk.  If nothing else than I can tell all my family in Michigan it's in Bachelor No. 2.  I can't believe that film was filmed in my work, my church, and perhaps my law school LOL.

LOL! My family would go crazy over the fact it was in a movie...I have no idea why but they would!! My brother-in-law attended Suffolk (not the law school) and loved it! I'm sure you are already aware that it is a great school though :)  I'm going to have to check out that movie now, by the way!

yay congrats!  where do they list on your preference?

I am in a fairly unique situation at the moment, so I can honestly say that I don't know. I will say that I like the focus on biomed law and all the biomed/pharma that Boston and NE have to offer.

Where do they list for you? I know you seem quite excited + the nice debt reduction ;D

By the way, any downsides to Boston as a whole?

I got an envelope from them today about the public interest law scholarship... I want to apply but the deadline is Jan 2nd and I don't have enough time to pull together a letter of recommendation before then.  Why didn't they give more notice?  :(

Boston is cold and expensive, but a very smart city :)

You should check and see if any of the people who wrote your application LORs have a copy of the letter saved, if so they might be willing to just sent that in. Might as well give it a shot, money's money!

I don't know but I feel like you don't belong in this thread lol

I've sent out only two apps to a T3 and T4 respectively.

But you're right, I don't belong. I should be applying to the upper-T2/lower-T1s.

Hey all, this is my second cycle...and I've already had some surprises.

Jones Law, who accepted me last cycle (with $$) when I applied the day before the deadline, swiftly rejected me about a week ago. I applied much earlier this time, obviously. I'm guessing it's because I chose not to attend...who knows.

Last year I received a rejection letter from Mercer around March. This year, they replied much earlier notifying me I'm on the waitlist. So I'm hopeful.

App still pending at Georgia State, my top choice, obviously.

I'm not applying to anymore T4's. Got into JM ATL last cycle, but just not interested in taking on six figure debt to attend there....

So I'll be waiting it out probably through the summer all over again. :-\

Feliz Navidad!! Where else did you apply?? Have you thought about schools in the Midwest? What state would you like to practice in or go? It took me two cycles also to get into law school, so don't be too discouraged, when you final get there, your ambigiousness is twice that of the regular law student.. I can't believe some of the people in my class who only applied to one school and took the LSAT once and didn't even try to get into to law school, they don't know how great things fell into their lap. I wish you the best this cycle.. Keep everyone posted on your progress! Let me know if there is anything I can do to help out!! Law school is worth it. I'm half way done and am so happy for that. I just wish I knew how i did this semester. Law school grades take forever and are notoriously low b/c of the curve, although sometimes you can really suprise your self. Ciao take care! And welcome to the best law school board around.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I've followed your experiences, so you do give me hope. I've been on LSD since 05, but I don't post that much...

Last cycle, I applied to all Georgia schools and some in Florida. I got 3 accepts, but wasn't thrilled about them.

I have been there and done that with the LSAT, Testmasters prepcourse, etc...I have taken the LSAT more than once, put it that way.

This year, I only applied to 3 schools, GSU, Mercer, and Jones. I should have saved my money on Jones, though....

I have a husband and kids, and while we are open to moving to other parts of Georgia or Florida, I don't see us going too much farther than that. I'm not against branching out, but I'm a city girl (from Los Angeles) so I need to spend three years in law school in an area conducive to survival, lol.

GSU is my number one choice. Tuition is dirt cheap (8k a year) and I want to live/practice in or around ATL, ideally.

I'm on the T3/T4 thread b/c Mercer is kinda borderline, and I spent a lot of time on this thread last cycle when I would have been thrilled to attend ANY T4... however, I have evolved somewhat.

Worst case scenario, I don't get in anywhere, I will take the LSAT AGAIN in 08 and apply in 09. I will get into a GOOD school. Anyway, I'll keep ya'll posted...:)

If you guys had to choose between a private lower T1/upper T2 without money (i.e. graduating 100K+ in debt) and a full-ride to a T3 or T4, which would you choose?

Assuming you wouldn't mind staying in the area surrounding the T3/T4 for a few years, and depending on the competition for jobs in that area (how many schools are around there?) and the ease with which you could KEEP your full ride, I would choose the free T3/T4. Outside of the T14 there isn't that much degree portability, so there's no sense in graduating with $100k+ in debt.

EDIT: Out of curiosity, what schools are you talking about?

I have to agree with my esteemed colleague on this one.  I'm doing the math on Loyola Chicago versus in-state tuition atWashburn, and I just don't see how it works.  Although I have to admit I'm being tempted by what I hear about loan assistance programs being approved by Congress for people who go into public service.  Also, whilst I don't have figures, I am always troubled by the density of law students, ie. Chicago with about 12 law schools in 100-mile radius versus, say, Houston with 3.

About Washburn, I didn't get anything $$wise, not a surprise with my GPA, but when my wife was accepted, I think her scholarship paperwork came a few weeks later.  If you think you have a good chance, I would just call, that office is a group of about the nicest school employees I've ever met.

About Washburn, I didn't get anything $$wise, not a surprise with my GPA, but when my wife was accepted, I think her scholarship paperwork came a few weeks later.  If you think you have a good chance, I would just call, that office is a group of about the nicest school employees I've ever met.

armyjag,
-Thanks, I will make sure to contact them and express interest. I spoke with an attorney yesterday who serves on a Board I  used to work for and he had great things to say about Washburn.  Also as an example rebutting all the 'T14 or you might as well work at Mickey-d's' naysayers, this lawyer went to Creighton, had a very successful practice and served as president of the Alaska Bar Association before retiring. Granted he went to school 40 years ago, but still..

In:Valpo Washburn Hamline
Not yet In: Wisconsin Marquette L&C Pacific Roger Williams
Didn't wan't to go there anyway: Illinois

Speaking of Washburn, I just received a $5K award.  It seems like it's good for first year only, and it doesn't say anything about renewal requirements.  huh.
It was nice to get any piece of mail after a long drought.  I think unless South Texas or Boulder let me in, I'll be living in Topeka.

Congrats to all of you!  This board is great!  Applied in early November but didn't go complete until just after Dec LSAT scores were released.  Applied at Gerogia State(1st choice) , Mercer, JM-Atl, Emory (my looooooong shot), Marquette (FW), Florida Coastal (FW), and Loyola New Orleans.  I really hope to stay in Atlanta but haven't heard back from anyone yet.  This is starting to make me really nervous - not hearing from Georgia State is what is killing me - I am having rejection nightmares!

MAINE - Accepted! Checked my online status checker the evening of 01/30/08 as I saw some decisions had been made this week, and low and behold it says, "Congratulations! You have been accepted." I'm sure a letter will follow.

Congratulations!  Do you think you will be attending?

Well best of luck, whatever you decide

Congrats on Drake!  Make sure you read the fine print about the scholarship, though.  When I was admitted there 2 cycles ago now, I was offered a scholarship but it was contingent upon financial need among other things and since I was a non-trad with a good job before law school, it was unlikely that I would qualify.  I like Drake- their building is beautiful, they place well in Iowa, etc. but that fact alone disqualified them for me.

Hey all congrats on your acceptances....
Question... My buddy got a very suspicious email today from Chase law school aka Northern Kentucky Law school.
Here is some of what it said

"Greetings and congratulations on your recent admission to NKU Chase!

On behalf of the faculty and students, I would like to take this opportunity to cordially invite you to join us for the below presentation. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to Denise Taylor so we can make arrangements for lunch.

AMERICAN CONSTITUTION SOCIETY: CHASE COLLEGE OF LAW STUDENT-CHAPTER PRESENTS:

Justice or Avoiding Justice?: How Courts treat Cases Involving Life and Liberty by Attorney Stephen B. Bright

March 25, Tuesday, from 11:45-1:00 in Nunn Hall, Room 426. Food will be provided."    - blah, blah blah I added the Bold part b/c that is the part that is suspicious. He hasn't gotten a real letter of acceptance yet. Has anyone who has applied to NKU recieved this email also when they haven't gotten an acceptance yet?? Or did you recieve it at all? What do you think?? I know that addmissions can sometimes make mistakes, but I was just wondering if anyone else got this email.

It came from the addmissions department. I told him to call the school tomorrow. To see what is up!! This would be perfect if he got in b/c he lives in Cincinatti and doesn't want to move and U of Cin already rejected him. Also if he didn't get in, that is just plain MEAN!!! And very negligent if you ask me for them to mess up and send him an email that says that. Poor guy can't sleep tonight he says!!

Take care!

It is rolling addmissions, but they are known to take a long time in sending out acceptances in some instances. I got mine in late Feb. I know of some people who didn't get theirs till months later. The earlier the better, but then they accept the students with the hightest stats first. It can take a while. Call them up and see where you are at within their process. You may be with the committee now. Good luck!!

Where do I want to go...ah, dreams...
just kidding.

I'm waiting on South Texas College of Law and UMissouri-KC.  My acceptances include part-time at Loyola Chicago, and full at Akron.  My number one choice right now is my acceptance to Washburn.

I'm trying to decide if it's better to do the T3 thing full time at a very, very good price, or start part-time at Loyola and transfer to full-time and pay out the yin-yang.  My dilemma therein is that I have no desire to do the law firm thing; I want to be a prosecutor and will be impoverished as my wife will be in medical school concurrently.

If anyone in the peanut gallery has thoughts, I would appreciate the comments greatly.  My shrink, Mr. Pabst, doesn't seem to have the answers.

Someone gave you an acceptance with a PHONE CALL???  I never heard of that and it seems tacky.  What would they have done if you didn't have voice mail?  And did they follow up with a snail mail or email?

Do other schools in Boston or elsewhere give results via phone?

I never heard of that but the truth is, I am very new to these boards so perhaps I just haven't read enough yet.

Thank you for the info.

I've gotten 3 phonecall admittances from deans and then had an email exchange with another.  They inevitably follow-up with a mailed package or series of emails, but I have to say, that phone call is really, really nice.  Trust me, when you get one, it's not tacky.

I didn't pick up so he left a voicemail...and for those that don't have voicemail, it doesnt really matter because you're going to get something in writing no matter what if you've been accepted. The call was really nice and he offered advice about suffolk or law schools in general if I wanted to call back.. i received a package in the mail the next day.  It wasn't tacky at all but really personal

I don't think phone calls are tacky... :P

Phone calls are the best!! I got a phone call for my Undergrad and my Law school!! Face it!! Phone calls just make you feel special. I know for a FACT that not everyone recieves phone calls that gets accepted to my school. Only a small portion.

Congrats to all!!

I've gotten 3 phonecall admittances from deans and then had an email exchange with another.  They inevitably follow-up with a mailed package or series of emails, but I have to say, that phone call is really, really nice.  Trust me, when you get one, it's not tacky.

I stand corrected, and I appreciate the info.  I thought it was either a phone call or a written notification; I didn't realize that the phone call was in addition to the formal acceptance letter.

I'm battle-scarred from enduring too many telemarketing calls.

Sorry I misunderstood, and CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who's accepted so far!!

Congrats again to all!!

I got my acceptance from Hamline via voicemail which I checked covertly at the office and about jumped out of my chair.  It really made my day even more then the envelope in the mailbox acceptances I received later.

Is anyone beginning to plan visits?  I'm trying to piece together a flight from Juneau down to visit L&C, Washburn, Hamline and Marquette all in one fell swoop.  My hope is that if I combine all the schools in one trip the total travel reimbursement stipends will take a little of the sting out of the wallet.  Does anyone else have travel plans??

In at NYLS (5k), NESL (20k), and Pace (15k)!

Anyone have any opinions or tid bits that might help me make a decision?  NYLS was my first choice because of their mental health program, but its also very expensive!  They didn't give me much dough to work with.

:)

Yeah, the letter came the day after I really knocked Boston off my list completely.  It's just too cold and I hear the school is not in a very nice area.  Not to mention its not highly regarded (atleast by who I talk to!)  But I do love Boston lol

NYLS only gave me 5k too!  It's almost like whats the point, right? haha

yeah that bites... schools are so fickle.

Yeah, apparently you can bargain with them.  A few of my advisors told me that you can talk your way into a higher scholarship with some schools.  So, I'm going to use my larger $$ from Pace and NESL to get me more money at NYLS.  Otherwise, I'll go to Pace.  I like Pace too.

also, i received a phone call from Lewis & Clark today, not telling me I was accepted flat out but saying, "Hi, this is Emery from L&C and we jus tlike to call our admitted students and see if they have any questions"... I quickly responded and said I hadnt been admitted (yet?), and hes like, "oh its coming in the mail b/c I only get a phone list of those who are admitted"....and then he followed up with an email literally right after the call, that still didnt say Congrats or anything but "i hope you come visit here blah blah if u have any questions about the school dont hesitate, look forward to meeting u etc".... I'm kind of confused, my mom says it means im def in, but, i'm way below their numbers... i have a 156 and 3.4, and just applied bc of a fee waiiver... any thoughts?

cupcake: i think i might actually go to the open house since it is conveniently in the PM!  I've been to the campus before, and I've studided in the library a few times.  I like the area, but I want to get a look at the housing building if possible.

We applied to some similar schools.  What are your thoughts on NYLS??

and I'm not sure about NYLS... i mean, right now I don't have many choices so it's definitely one of options I'm leaning towards. I've heard a lot of negatives about it bc it's in such a saturated market. The competition between all the other schools in NYC makes me it look really bad for job prospects, BUT i know a guy who goes there and loves it. He said the job thing is not as bad as it seems. The top 10-15% have a chance at biglaw, and even if you're not in that group you still can get a job b/c a lot of the internships at the Courts and what not which are so closeby, are held by NYLS students and so they kind of have an in. I also heard the student body is overall really good looking hahaha and despite what people say, really smart.

Cupcake, yeah, I think NYLS isn't so bad, it's just in comparison to all the others in NYC that it gets intimidating.  I hear ya about the good-looking people thing too...

I just got into Pace today.  About a third tuition - to be honest, I thought I might get more  :(  This worries me that I will get barely anything out of NYLS.  I will probably plan on the admitted students day in late March at Pace.

Maybe this is the thread for me.

I got a 3.17 UGPA in Political Science from GA state.

148 LSAT. I plan to retake in June, but I want to apply for Fall and see my options.

Does anyone have any recommendations or comments about John Marshal in Atlanta? I was thinking of applying there.

I got about a 3rd tuition from Pace too (15k), and I only got a minimal amount for NYLS (5k)!  The 5k is pretty much nothing compared to their outrageously high tuition, but I want to go to NYLS.

I got my letter of reward about a week or so after my acceptance, and I got 20k.  That is a huge chunk of tuition, but I have really just decided against Boston all together.

My man, I would pass up John Marshall in Atlanta.  I've never heard a good word spoken about that place, to be honest.  With your GPA, if you can get into mid 150s, you can start looking at fully accredited schools, which would be better than a provisional.  If you're young enough, there is nothing wrong with waiting a year and making yourself a stronger candidate.

I am in complete agreement with armyjag.  Try to get that LSAT up and apply to some other schools.  Have you thought about Mercer and/or Georgia State.  Both of these are great schools and can leave you with some really decent carreer prospects in the Atlanta area.

Congrats, but you don't seem very happy with the school, so maybe not.

A small library does suck, especially when finals come around and there isn't enough room for all the crazy first years to run around all frantic-like!

Yeah, it was an uber-safety.  Wanted to see if I could get $$ from them, which I did, but judging by numbers in the NALP directory, you have to be in about the Top 15% to hold the scholarship, and I don't really like those chances.

If you can't get a straight answer out of an administrator at the school or find the curve posted on a schools website check www.nalplawschoolsonline.org for what GPA is top 50% top 25% etc.

Also, check out the directory of legal employers at http://www.nalpdirectory.com/

If you are planning on working in a large market at a firm, you can get the names of most large/mid size firms in the market, view which schools they interview at, and direct to the firms website where you can search bios of lawyers by law school attended and see what kind of honors, activities etc. get you in the door as well as how many lawyers from your potential school work in the firm compared to lawyers who attended other schools in the market.

It's a bit of a process, but I found out that cum laude William Mitchell grads (T3) outnumber summa Hamline (T4) grads at most large Minneapolis firms 2/1

Seriously, the NALP directory, though it takes time to get through, is really well worth looking through for those of us in this level of law school selection.  We probably will not be getting much love through career services people, so I'm spending more time now looking at how the graduates are distributed through an area.

For example, Wesleyan only had like 4 firms interviewing, one of which is JAG (they go everywhere), and St. Mary's has about 25.  They are both 4T, but I think you see that one probably has the more well established alumni network.

Hey you, brat (sorry, that sounds funny to my beer-sodden mind)  it's all good.

I've been in the business world for a few years, and the one thing I have learned is to network.  The goofbags who make up the majority of LSD and Top Law Schools will fade into the background when you graduate, but the vast, vast majority of the legal community will be the people who make up this interest group, and we will HAVE to stick together.  You will get your job and future lifeblood from people who were in your exact place a decade earlier.
To everyone:
Learn to love those extracurriculars that might expose you to local lawyers, go to those brown-bag lunches, take the clinic classes, volunteer for the crappy-paying clinics over the summer, research for every professor, and at the end of our respective careers, we will be a lot happier, and I bet will look back with a much fonder eye than the people whining about choosing between NYU and Cornell.

Sorry to sound sentimental, I will go back to my PBR now.

At least I know my cycle will be over by the weekend and then I can go back to actually pretending to care about my current classes.  It's funny though, when I started writing my Personal statement last July it seemed as though this point would never come.  Now I'm freaking about putting together all my financial aid docs and finding a place to live.

Please tell me what you like about this school.  I applied for it but really didn't think too much about it until now.  What attracts you?  I do not know anything about it.  I have an offer to Barry in Orlando also, and I am trying to decide between those two at the moment.  Any insight?

Well, I finally got my STCL acceptance!

It is a lot better and a lot cheaper, I think, than Barry.  Despite the T4 ranking, it has about the 4 or 5 ranked trial advocacy program. If you are cool with living in Houston and its immediate area, it's a great place to go.

What is your top choice?  I think I've decided on NYLS.  I don't want to go part-time at SHU, even if I do get it.  Only because of the fact that the scholarships I MAY be awarded only go to full-time students.

My #1 is Rutgers, mostly because of its reputation and its nearby... since I'm going part-time this is a factor (I'm a high school teacher in Bergen County)... My #2 choice is NYLS (which I actually love a lot)...

Honestly though, I just have weird feelings about both schools... hoping I get into one but my 150 LSAT is keeping me down... but I'm hoping part-time might make it a little easier for me.

When is your deposit due for NYLS? The acceptance letter came in what kind of envelope/package? How long did it take you to hear from them?? I'm going crazy and need some guidance, nerd.

Hahaha

Well, I do believe I will be sending in my hard-earned dollars to South Texas.  Funny, but today I received a letter from John Marshall-Chicago listing the estimated Cost of Attendance at $58,688 for a day student.

I have to admit I almost snorted my water out of my nose.

Holy crap, I though Denver was expensive. That's what HLS costs.

That is absolutely rediculous!!! I am actually glad they rejected me!! haha
I know a couple transfer student who went there and they hated how they paid so much money to that school. Sure it is in Chicago, but seriously Chicago is not that expensive compared to NY or LA there is no reason to charge that much to the students!!

Congrats army

Any scholarship info?

Hey, Grad (and any other STCL admits). I spoke with STCL admissions today about scholarships. They said that their goal is to have scholarship letters out before April 1st, our seat deposit deadline. The rep I spoke with (Nathan Neely), however, said that the letters could possibly be sent out after April 1st, in which case they would accept our seat deposits a bit later. Right now they're trying to determine dollar amounts. If you want to keep tabs on the documents/emails STCL sends you (including scholarship letters), you can just check your status checker. I never got the email with my username/password, so they had to forward it to me today.

Mr. Neely also said that an Accepted Students Reception is being planned for April 5. If you can't make that date (like me), you can schedule a tour and class visit at your convenience.

P.S. Check your PM, Grad.

Sounds great BA. (Got the PM, sent you one back) I spoke with Mr. Neely a few days ago over email and he said the same thing about scholarships being sent out, hopefully, in the next few weeks. Further, I'm in Austin and they are having a South texas showcase on March 18th I'll be going to.

I'm 99.9% sure I'm headed to STCL.

Armyjag, you're going 99.9% sure too?

Yeah, I'd say I'm at 100% now, actually.

My deposit is due on April 7, and it's odd, to me, that they did not mention the admitted student event in the acceptance.  Not that I can go, but c'est la vie.  Grad, would you mind posting with your thoughts on the event?

That is also the same scholarship info I received from them yesterday via phone.  I am not expecting anything, honestly, because of my undergrad performance and also after looking at LSAC's info sheets, their median grant is about $1500 and only 30% get anything anyway.

I can't find any info about 2008-9 tuition, but they didn't increase much over the past year.  My wife's law school tuition is going up 16% for the fall.  Unbelievable.  The notion that Wyoming will cost more out-of-state than STCL kinda blows my mind.

they called me, so I'm betting you are in good shape.  they took forever to request my LSAC report and once I called to see what was up with that I got called about 2 weeks later being told that I got accepted.  the Dean of Admissions wanted to remind that they are in Steelers country.  I thought that was kinda cool

Your first year is going to be restricted to about 15 or 16 credits if you are fulltime.  Even after, I don't think you can go above 18, even if you wanted, or so says my wife's law school.

Depending on how your school allocates credits, you should be looking right around the 15/16 mark give or take.
Most people can petition to take more in their second year.
1L is a tradition and an institution.  Every school wants everyone 1L to go through the same rite of passage.

Also, for the record, California Western ($$$$) for the win.

Scholarships...See if schools you are thinking about attending offer full tuition scholarships based on a student's academic performance their first semester....I'm a 1L at UDC in Wash.,D.C. and received full tuition for my 2nd and 3rd year (out of district tuition rate) based on my first semester performance.

UDC is a T4 school and seeks to retain high performing students, as opposed to losing them via a transfer.  I believe many other schools have similar merit based scholarships.

Glad to see everyone is hearing good news!! At my school they allow you to take more than 18 credits but you have to ask permission from the Dean, she is usually cool about it as long as you have a decent gpa. I'm taking 18 credits now and it is a pain in the ass. I spaced it out though, and am taking this one trial advocacy class on saturdays "which is where the new pic comes from" which is awesome!! The semester wouldn't be so bad if I didn't still have so many 1L classes to take. I was a PT evening student last year... for anyone who may be contemplating going from PT to FT. Depends on the school of course, but you can do it quite easily at mine, all you have to do is register for the extra classes, although you will still have to finish up your required courses at the same time.

Good luck everyone!!

Call them.  A similar thing happened to me with DePaul.  They sent me an email inviting me to admitted students day, before any acceptance letter.  I called them up, they told me they couldn't notify me over the phone but that they'd email me.  I got an email about an hour later with my acceptance letter.

So, I'd say you probly got in, but there's no substitute for just calling.

Good luck!

I would say deferred.  If you're deferred they can still put you on the waitlist, not the other way around.  Either way, you almost certainly won't be getting any scholarship $$$, which, for my poor self, means its not worth going unless it's a truely top school...

I love the outdoors (skiing, hiking etc.), so Gonzaga, as it is in the mountains, definitely has an advantage in that department.  It's a long way from where I am now, thats the big drawback.

In at St. Thomas with a scholarship. Deposit due May 7th, hoping to hear from some other schools before then. Holding out for a San Diego area one....

Congrats on St. Thomas and the $$$!  I am actually gonna call them tomorrow and negotiate the terms of the scholarship they offered me...

Go where you can picture yourself living and working.  These are all very regional schools so that's the most important thing.  It may be difficult to move after you graduate.

I agree with Pinky on this.  Only go where you feel you could stay for a  number of years after graduating.  Tulsa is is a small-big city, access to lost of state parks, lakes, and related activities.  Market is kinda limited but cost of living is CHEAP!  Creighton is in the middle of freaking nowhere.    I don't know Franklin Pierce or Dayton...

FP is in Concord, NH and it's the only law school in the state, so you have decent employment opportunities there.  It's COLD though and lots of SNOW.

Well I know there is some skiing in NE, but it ain't the Rockies...

Thanks for the nice words all! Good luck on the negotiating at St. Thomas Happy!

Where would you rather live and practice?
As far as where to go to school I have to agree with the other posters, you should go where you want to live and practice. That is my issue, I don't want to live in Miami, I will if I have to but my goal is to get to California. If I get my degree in Florida it will be hard to take it to California. So even though St. Thomas $$$ is attractive, the location is not. Did you get any $$$ at any of the schools? If you really don't care where you go then maybe you should consider going to the least expensive one.

withdrew from St. Thomas (FL) and St. Mary's.
Waitlisted at OU!!!!!

Being waitlisted is like getting a kiss on the check at the end of a first date... it isn't a generic hug and you didn't get lucky but it feels good to not be rejected! I am actually ecstatic about this since OU is my #1 choice. I really did need this bit of good news today...

Anybody have any suggestions where I should go? I have a choice between UNLV with instate tuition and LSU with a $4,500/yr renewable with top half of the class scholarship.

I'm torn...

Law schools are a lot like real estate...location is key.  My advice would be to go where you can see yourself staying.
