They are still claiming that they won't even begin reviewing applications until the 2nd week in November.  I don't know who they are trying to fool.

Congrats to everyone accepted so far!

Congrats to all of those already accepted.  I got the postcard dated 10/30, so I'll be pretty nervous checking the mail over the next few days, although with my sub 3 GPA I fully expect to get a deferral or a waitlist (or nothing at all).  Although there were a couple people with a lower index # on LSN who have been accepted so far, so I guess we will see.

An early acceptance from Miami would be huge though, considering that it has basically been my dream school since I applied for undergrad (too bad I couldn't afford it then).  That would allow me to not have to worry about any applications for the next 6 months, since I would be happy if I got accepted at Miami (or just about any school that I applied to).  I could go 1 for 15 and be a happy person.

Thanks for the positive words.  I expect to get in eventually (once my GPA gets bumped up over 3.0), but getting an early acceptance would be comforting.  Looking at LSN only like 2% of the nearly 300 applicants over the last couple years have been rejected, so that is encouraging as well.

It's still very early in the cycle.  You still could get many early acceptances!

For that question, I didn't really have major papers that I wrote or anything. But I wrote down two "larger" research papers that I wrote in Undergrad that required "extensive" research. Papers in the thirty page range with numerous sources. I don't think they expect you to fill the whole section.

I would just list the major papers you have written and even describe them. I talked about a research paper i wrote on Japanese internment and another paper I wrote that focused on the tort law system and a case study that I did.

Hope that helps

Quantity is not everything in writing.  In many fields (I'm thinking of the social sciences), decent research articles can be done in 10 pages or so.

I talked a lot about my research papers and my thesis. I think that you should just mention anything you wrote that included research or detailed analysis. Good luck!

On my Miami application I included the various papers I had written throughout undergrad, including a published paper some scientific papers and those from my major classes.

Also, I was notified today that I have earned a $23,000/year scholarship, as long as I keep a B average.

That's awesome! What is your LSAT and GPA, if you don't mind me asking (You can pm it to me if you want.)

I wonder how many people earn a "B" average in each section.

"For last spring (2006) the 50% cut off for first year students was 2.953. Approximately 85-90% retain their scholarship after their first-year. Merit Scholarships are renewable for the second and third year of law school provided the student maintains a "B" average (3.000) or better.

The Curve: For first year classes only, faculty must give a combined total of A and B+ grades to at least 20% of the class and a combined total of B, B+, and A grades to at least 45% of the class.  Faculty are free to give more A, B+, and B grades.

Faculty who teach first year classes are required to give C- or below grades to at least 5% of the class,  which would just be 5 in a class of 100 or 3 in class of 50.   The reason for the latter rule is to ensure that students who are in serious academic difficulty are forced to confront the problem early in their law school career, rather than “squeak by” in school and then find themselves unable to pass the bar and unprepared for practice."

That's also what UM says, almost verbatim, in the Vault Law School Buzz 2007 book.  I PMed you my stats.

I sent my application via the LSAC 10/22/07, I received a postcard that I was complete on 10/26/07.

My acceptance letter was dated 10/31/07, and I received it 11/5/07.

I'm hoping that such a quick acceptance means that I'll be offered scholarship money.

The only reason I had almost ruled out Miami was because of its costs.  Now, my top four are Miami, FSU, UF and Tulane.  After I visit and get all my acceptances/aid packages I'll have a better idea of my top choice.

Miami really upset me yesterday, although it wasn't the law schools fault.  While going through my mail I saw a big envelope with the UM symbol printed in the upper lefthand corner.  I opened it up and found the letter inviting me to apply to some Miami semester for visiting students in the spring.  After thinking about it for a few minutes, I realized that I got this letter just about every year since I was accepted to their UG school, but for a minute I was really ticked off.

But nonetheless, YAY   ;D

Job placement stuff aside, there's nowhere else I'd rather attend.

Does Miami have poor job placement? I would plan on staying in Miami so I don't know if that's as big of a concern?

To answer your question ... (a) I'm speaking in relation to other institutions that I think I'll get into, and (b) I really don't know!  UMiami does better than similarly ranked institutions, and I've heard so many times that Miami firms LOVE hiring UMiami grads.  That said, the class size is big (~1500), and I don't think a very high percentage of them are employed (about top 10-20% get "biglaw" jobs, from what I gather).

I'd like a little more certainty on this before I make up my mind, though.

Total number of students at the law school is ~1,100--each class size is about 400.

In personal news: I just got a scholarship offer  ;D  It came about 2 weeks after the acceptance, just like most everyone else's.

Also, in regards to UM's class size, it differs.  Last year was near 500.  This year, they're aiming for 400-425, according to their website.

Does anyone know what the curve is set at @ UMiami?

The Curve: For first year classes only, faculty must give a combined total of A and B+ grades to at least 20% of the class and a combined total of B, B+, and A grades to at least 45% of the class.  Faculty are free to give more A, B+, and B grades.

Faculty who teach first year classes are required to give C- or below grades to at least 5% of the class,  which would just be 5 in a class of 100 or 3 in class of 50.   The reason for the latter rule is to ensure that students who are in serious academic difficulty are forced to confront the problem early in their law school career, rather than “squeak by” in school and then find themselves unable to pass the bar and unprepared for practice.

Accepted today! It's my first. They sent me one of those post cards that said I had several things missing from my application, but when I called them to double-check, they said I had been admitted. Quite a surprise. Wasn't even thinking about attending, since I've never been to Miami, but it's now a fairly strong possibility. Good luck to everyone...

Hey... Just found this discussion.  I was accepted very early in the game and I will most likely attend UMiami.

StressCase: If you have never been to Coral Gables/Miami I strongly recommend you make a thorough visit. It is an extremely unique area that is NOT for everyone.

On another note, is anyone looking to move within the next month or two into a nice apartment 5 minutes from campus?  I need a roomate and would like to speak to anyone potentially interested in moving in with a motivated law student.

Congrats to those accepted and I hope to see you all at Law Day.

What other area is close enough to the law school that you would recommend for us out-of-towners? Thank!

Hey Che.  I can offer you my humble opinion since I was raised near UM and have been looking in that market for quite some time.  For the first year of law school you will want to live as close to the school as possible.  Condo/apt complexes like Valencia, Cloisters, Gable's Court, Miller 67 and University Inn are EXTREMELY CLOSE.  There are more beautiful areas that UM students live like Brickell, South Beach, etc.  HOWEVER, you must realize that with traffic in the area, 15 minutes on Mapquest can EASILY be 30-45 minutes during bad traffic times. I looked at an apt to rent about 12-15 minutes away and the two 1L's that currently live there expressed their regret for not living virtually across the street from campus for the first year.  It is different for the 2nd and 3rd year when you will possibly be working downtown and need less time on campus.

I'm sure a few people on this message board will disagree with my opinion but, from what I have gathered, closer is better.

Again, if you are looking to move w/i the next month or two, I will be renting from Valencia South Miami or Gables Court and would like a 1L for a roomate.  Please let me know.

-Justin

I echo Justin's sentiments - I grew up in Coral Gables and I would advise you all to stay away from Brickell/South Beach.  First of all, the rents are astronomical.  Second of all, you'll be very out of touch with campus.  Go there on the weekends.  I would suggest Coral Gables and South Miami as good places - you could try Kendall (East Kendall, as close to US-1 as possible) and Pinecrest could also work.  Coconut Grove can be kind of funky so unless you thoroughly investigate the area and assure yourself that you aren't near any rough parts I would stay away from that too.

One more post for the board... I got in at UM!  It is one of my top choices but still debating whether to attend since every other school that has accepted me so far has offered money (including one with full tuition).  Also, they wrote my name wrong in my acceptance letter.  Does anybody knows how generous is UM with $$?  I know it takes them about a month to send you an offer but I don't know if they got some sort of cutoff requirement when giving out scholarship or grants.

According to their admissions message board, scholarships are generally given to those with 3.2+/160+.

Title: FIU passing Miami??
Post by: Prize Fight Promoter on January 28, 2008, 07:22:28 PM
What are your thoughts on FIU passing Miami in the near future?  Over the past couple years the numbers required to get into FIU have increased dramatically (with identical LSAT median as Stetson!) With a tuition under $10k/year, it is a fraction of UMiami's cost so their applicant pool is enormous.  Their law center is grand-spanking new and they have the state's resources.  Is FIU's passing of Miami inevitable?  Will/Can Miami do what is necessary to stay on top in South Florida?  If I am going to pay over $100k for a Miami degree I want to be assured it will not be obsolete.  What do you guys think???

I wouldn't worry about it.  For one thing, one of the main components of the USNWR rankings is their reputation scores, which accounts for 40% of the overall score.  FIU's scores are a 1.6 and a 1.5 (3.1 total).  To give you some reference, there are just 4 T4 schools with a lower total score and the second lowest total score for another T3 schools is a 3.7.

While FIU can raise their numbers, the most important thing postgrad is the reputation of your school and how easy it is to get a job.  So while FIU has many things going for it and should attract some better students in the future, it will take a while for those students to get out into the legal profession to help improve the schools reputation.  So FIU may pass Miami eventually, but I believe that it is highly unlikely to happen before you get go to apply for your first job after law school, and after that your school ranking really doesn't matter that much.

Just as a point of reference, UMiami's reputation scores are 2.8 and 3.0 (5.8 total).  That puts Miami in the top 1/3 of all schools (I believe it is around 60th) and it is tied with FSU for #2 in the state.

What did the email say? Convince you to attend? =)

No email here.  Just got two emails from admissions, one introducing the career service office and another making a correction to the email she just sent.  And now that I think about it, almost every form of communication I've gotten from them needs a follow up correction... not liking that.  Still it is one of my top choices.

Got home last night to find a deferral letter...  seems a little bit late to be getting these...

I just saw your Suffolk post... who even cares about Miami when you got into GW??  :D

I also didn't get any personal email from a current student. The only school from which I've been contacted by a student is FSU. And they called me. My friend got an email; I think it's their personal preference how they choose to contact their list of admits. (In my case, I missed the call and didn't bother calling back... I didn't really have any pressing questions)

I have mixed feelings on Miami. I got in there quick, but I didn't get offered a scholarship or anything. Which is fine, but I definitely wouldn't choose Miami with no scholarship over FSU. I'm not one who was thrilled about living in Miami anyway.

I got a negative impression of the Miami admission people when I met them at the Atlanta LSAC Forum... I try to not hold that against them, but when the director of admissions seems to not even care, it doesn't really sell your school to me.

I haven't completely ruled out Miami, but my own chances of going there are slim. That being said, it does seem like a very good school. The opportunities in Miami seem great, especially for international-related law, in particular law with Latin America (it is Miami after all)

No idea what's going to happen now with FIU in the mix. Some people have a very positive impression of FIU, but for the time being, people who go to FIU are going to have to have that 'pioneer' mentality.

I'd also probably look at how the two schools are considered as a whole... FIU's existance in Miami has never really challenged UM's prestige. It's a public institution, Miami is private. I don't know what its status is in Miami, but FIU doesn't really have much cachet elsewhere in the state (and I'm referring to its undergraduate)

It'll make its own niche for itself though... especially because it has in-state tuition while being in the Miami-Dade area. And a lot of people who want to be in Miami but don't want to pay the prices at Miami will probably ensure that it rises pretty fast.

For what it's worth, the pre-law advisor at USF is telling all my friends who have expressed interest in attending Stetson to not go to Stetson and go to FIU instead. He seems to love FIU. On a separate note, the guy is a complete waste of whatever the university pays him for a salary, so I don't take anything he says seriously. But I do think FIU is up-and-coming, in any case.

I believe they're for the larger full-tuition+stiped type of awards...like Miami Scholars, etc.  Most of them you don't have to apply for specially, you're just considered for them automatically.

You might get the standard 23k scholarship they give away to people with 160+ LSAT.  Some people around here with similar LSAT has said that they write to UM and then get scholarship.  I tried but seems like my 156 got me nowhere even when I brought to their attention that higher ranked school gave me full tuition.  But it's ok.  I got better offers from other schools anyways.  I do hope you get a scholarship, though.

I've got very similar numbers (3.1/161) and got no scholarship either.  I think they start scholarships with 3.2+/160+ students, so we just missed the cut.  You could probably send them an email and try and negotiate a scholarship, but I don't know how successful that would be.

They usually let you know within a few weeks I think.  From what a lot of people are saying it seems like 160+ and above a 3.0 gets you $69,000.  Maybe you should contact them to make sure they have your new Feb score and see if they will take that into account to offer you some money!

As long as you got your W-2's, you should be able to do your FAFSA.  Even if you can only estimate at this point, you can always go back online and make corrections if you have to.  (It's so easy to do online!)

Yeah, it was a separate application.

But you already got 23k/yr... and the scholar's program is 25k/yr... *confused*

It's not much more...but every little bit counts.  $6,000/yr. is $6,000 less in loans I have to take out.

And...it looks good on a resume in a public interest field that can be extremely competitive.

And...they help you pay for a study-abroad program.

I'd say that's a pretty good deal!

It's true- Miami had a subpar year with numbers of incoming students.  However, pursuant to their website, Miami is limiting their class size this year by up to 70 students.  A significant jump in rankings next year is guaranteed.  A new Dean coming in will also light a fire under UMiami.

A 12-point drop in a single year really worries me. 12 points seems like a huge amount, unless their scoring is subjective and akin to throwing darts at a target board.  I really, really want to go to UM - but with no $ and a 12-point drop, I admit it - I'm worrying.

That's all speculation. I'd hope that they'd experience a significant jump, because they've had an even more significant plummet in the past two years. Going from 65 to 82 is horrid.

I understand you're excited about Miami, as that's your school-to-be. I think Miami is a fine institution, but seeing firsthand how they deal with prospective students, they aren't doing a good job at recruiting the best and brightest they can get. I think their general attitude is that they get so many applicants and they have such a large class that they're just bound to get someone good.

My advice to Miami, if they are indeed getting a new dean, is to scrap their Head of Student Recruitment while they're at it. I have had nothing but negative experiences with Therese Lambert, her attitude is incredibly underwhelming. And now that Miami has headed even further south, I'd recommend doing a bit better of a job with the student recruitment angle.

Miami's class size, to be fair, was smaller in 2006-2007 than UF. UF had 447 while Miami had 416. I believe UF's class that year was so huge because of their merging Fall and Spring into one (and was why last year UF took a 6 spot hit in the rankings)

I don't think Miami is a T1 institution for factors other than class size. They still have a way to go, and I think FSU is far worthier of reaching T1 before UM. And that, for all their talking at FSU, did not happen this year either.

All I know is my experience, as well as the experience that three friends of mine have had there. That's what I base my comment off of, and I stand by it because of the treatment I have received.

Again, I'm not saying Miami is a bad school. I think they honestly could do better with their choice location, and I've just been extremely underwhelmed by them this entire cycle. Therefore, their drop didn't really shock me, though I was surprised to see it fall as far and as fast as it has.

Knowing that Miami has been seriously struggling in the ratings for the past two years (drop from 65-82), are you all as confident in going to miami as you were?

I'm flying to miami tonight to check it out and for law day on friday.  I hope I fall in love with it, because the new ratings are really turning me off.  Especially when previously lower rated schools like Penn State, Rutgers, and Seton Hall are now all equal to or rated much better than miami.

I'm flying to miami tonight to check it out and for law day on friday.  I hope I fall in love with it, because the new ratings are really turning me off.  Especially when previously lower rated schools like Penn State, Rutgers, and Seton Hall are now all equal to or rated much better than miami.

Maybe it'll inspire them to handout huge scholarships to their remaining above-par candidates.. in that case, I would forgive their rankings drop. ;)

One can only hope.  They listed the minimum scholarship numbers at 3.2+/160+ on their message board.  I'm above the 160 but about .1 below the 3.20 GPA.  I'm not withdrawing yet on the off chance that a miracle happens.  I would really like to go to Miami, but I just can't talk myself into paying full price for Miami when I can pay the same price and go Tulane and still have a decent shot at getting work in Florida after graduation (if I so choose).

Amen! I am in their range for scholarship opportunities too, but I was told flat out they have no funds left :-/ It really sucks...I would love the opportunity to attend but full cost is just exorbitant.  I don't know, I just don't know at this point... :-/

Shouldn't Miami be ranked higher? It's the best school in one of the most important and fastest-growing urban areas in America. It has fantastic name recognition. Why the low rank? I see so much potential there.

I cannot wait for the day that U.S. News stops doing the rankings. Don't get sucked in people. It's the same school it was yesterday, when we were all excited about it.

I can totally relate to $$$ concerns though. A practical and reality based factor in making a school choice...like breath of fresh air right now.

If I don't land Miami Scholar's, it will pretty much be impossible for me to pick UM over UF.

Don't sweat rankings-- Things are being done at Miami to improve them.  When we graduate, we'll be back in the 60's or even 50's.

My only problem with UM is how they do scholarships.  From what I have seen if you have a 3.2/160, you get $23K/yr.  If you have a 3.1/161 (like I do), you don't get anything.  The difference between me and the other student could be one class.  If I had got an A in my dual credit calculus class in HS instead of getting a C I would have a 3.20.  Doing poorly in one class in HS probably cost me $23K/yr.  What I think they should do is give the 3.2/160 a decent scholarship (maybe $15K/yr) and give a student like me $10K/yr.  I just don't really understand how the all or nothing scholarship strategy works to bring up their median numbers, especially in an incoming class of 500 students.

(This post is probably just me venting because I didn't get a scholarship and I really like Miami, but I still think that how they do scholarships should be changed to be more effective)

Well, I'm 166/3.6ish, and I haven't been offered anything, if that makes you feel better -- I applied very late.

I know it's still the same school it was yesterday, but I'm still a little bummed about the drop. I really wanted to go to Miami, not only because it is a good school, but also because this is where my whole life is and where I plan to practice. I think why the drop is hitting so hard is because I also didn't receive a scholarship even though my numbers are solid (I applied late). I just can't stand the thought of paying full tuition. I really do hope that the numbers start to climb up again.

P.S. I'm going to ASD...I hope I fall in love...

This is similar to my situation...I really don't think you should be upset about the numbers drop.  If Miami is where your life is and where you want it to continue to be then if you do reasonably well at Miami, regardless of the numbers drop, you should be set in Miami.

I'll let you all know how it goes tomorrow....although we all know I'm biased.  I promise I'll try to give an honest account.

I'm "withdrawing", my deposit is due Tuesday and I've made the decision not to make it... I'd send in a withdraw letter but by the time it got there it would be after the deposit date so I am assuming this is an acceptable way to do it.

That's how I'm withdrawing as well. By the time they get a letter chances are they'll have already withdrawn me anyway.

I really did want to consider Miami more closely, although for staying in Florida UF was at the top of my list by far, being in Miami appealed to me more than being in Tallahassee at FSU. But the fact they are very stingy on scholarships and that FSU was my first acceptance made it really impossible to ever justify spending that kind of money on Miami.

I agree that if you definitely want to study *in* Miami and make network connections *in* Miami, then the rankings really shouldn't scare you off. Everyone on this forum is going through this period of re-evaluation because of the new rankings. Don't pick Miami, or any school for that matter, expecting it to rise 20 spots in 3 years. It may go up, it may go down, it may stay the same, it may keep bobbing up and down. Pick the school because you're confident you'll be happy there, regardless of the rank.

By conventional wisdom I would agree with this sentiment and also expect a school not to drop by 20 points in 3 years.  Falling from 65 to 82 is pretty close to 20 points and also a pretty freakin drastic drop.

I know we shouldn't freak out or obsess over it, but my question still remains - why has this ginormous drop occurred for a pretty well established and well respected institution?  Its not like they were hit with a major hurricane that decimated their facilities.  What causes an (almost) 20 point drop in a sudden 2 or 3 year period?  Is there any substantial reason or do USNWR methods of ranking law schools below top 25 equal playing "pin the tail on the donkey"?  ;D
Title: Re: ACCEPTED TO U of MIAMI!!!!!!! 2008
Post by: CoupDeGlace on March 27, 2008, 04:38:25 PM
That is a significant question.

I read about a month ago that sometimes schools toward the bottom can be just overturned based on aftershocks when schools shift at the top; because the number 1 school *must* have an overall score of 100 and the very last school has to have a 0? (or something like that... the whole rankings formula is kind of nutty)

Anyway, when a school drops 17 in two years, that is worrisome. For that matter, take even UNC, this school has dropped 11 spots in 2 years. It dropped 9 spots last year and another 2 spots this year, going from 25-36-38. And there are apparently some serious problems going on there, because they can't even get their act together when it comes to admissions. (look at LSN and you'll see what I mean, I think they maybe admitted 30% of their class and it's going to be April)

There is a methodical measure to these schools, as simple as if the schools below Miami suddenly got overall scores higher due to increased LSAT/GPA or peer evaluation scores, or whatever the heck went up, that's invariably going to bump down Miami if they didn't do anything to go up.

It'd be more worthwhile if you could get a hold of the total numbers for US News's evaluation of Miami for rankings from 2007-2009 and see what's changed. That's going to be more indicative that the school's overall ranking.

it's a joke that you guys are quibbling over rankings.  This USNWR crap is ONE set of rankings by ONE easily impressionable private journalistic medium.  If they were ABA rankings it would be different.  If you Miami people want something to feel better about after the new rankings, look at all the BIGLAW firms' websites in South Florida, go to the  Attorneys section and look at how many UMiami people there are in the firms.  THERE ARE TONS AND THEY WANT TO HIRE YOU TO HELP THEIR SCHOOL!!!

I agree with this for the most part. Yet the rankings thing makes me laugh because we all hate them when our school(s) of choice go down, but when they do well, everyone loves the rankings.

What is more important than this, at least for Miami, is the progress of FIU. Because FIU offers an attractive proposition for a lot of people. It doesn't enjoy the alumni base that Miami has, and it won't for a while, but if it gains a name as a solid institution in Miami at a far cheaper price, that will pose a big threat to the hegemony UM has on the market and may force UM to step its game up a little. Right now, I don't think UM feels it has to compete with anyone. A lot of people who choose Miami go there because they want to study IN Miami and network IN Miami, so this makes them overlook the rankings disparity with UF and FSU. But with crosstown competition, Miami finally has a potential rival.

FIU will never get students w/ big numbers because Miami will just offer them the standard $69k thereby eliminating FIU's precious tuition price.

i attended.  i wrote this in a separate thread but i will repeat.  the ASW was overwhelmingly comforting for those who are unsure of just how great UMiami is.  there are SO many ways to get involved to stand out in the job hunt: there is a club for every law interest, i.e. sports and entertainment law society.  they exhibited their career services center- every student is assigned to an attorney to ensure their employment.  the campus is beautiful and weather is immaculate.  it seemed like they only hire faculty out of Yale because that's where every faculty member I ran into attended.  i bet a LARGE percentage of people who attended ASW will attend UMiami because they showed how great the program is.  the school seemed to get better and better as the day went on.

Hi everyone!
Sorry this is late....and for the record, yes I am a she hahaha!!!

Anyway, so here's my take on ASD.  On the whole I was very pleased - I definitely echo Justin's sentiments on all the various programs available to you.  They do a lot of clinical programs and other types of pro bono work that I thought were really cool, and can be great on resumes.  The panel of professors, I thought, was impressive and inspiring.  All the professors come with really, really great credentials.  I asked one at the break what made her come to Miami given that she had such great credentials (i.e. Yale Law, which is common among the professors).  Her response was that for what she was interested in - a lot of pro bono stuff, immigration, international law - Miami was the place where it was all happening and that's what made her come.  The professors seemed to be really accessible.  Every student I spoke to said that they had had no problems getting internships and jobs (if they were 3L's) and that they all got their "dream job" or at the very least one they really liked.  It didn't seem like anyone settled for a crappy job because they had no choice.  Quite a few were going to prominent firms outside of Florida or the DOJ in D.C.

The facilities were well-kept, I thought, but yes they are somewhat outdated.  To me the beauty of U.M.'s campus is the gorgeous tropical foliage everywhere and the rockwork/limestone.  But that's a personal preference.  The fact that there is a Starbucks on campus rocks.  Again personal preference.  The law library was well-staffed and the tour by a staff member was informative.  I had a great guide for the actual law school tour as well, but as I looked around I saw some guides that I may not have been AS pleased with.

The professor panel was definitely a highlight for me.  They kept harping on the "international" aspect of Miami, which is very exciting and definitely a huge plus for the school.  They all inspired me to take their classes, and they all had a good personality/sense of humor which I appreciated.

Two criticisms: the continental breakfast was lackluster, and I thought the Dean's answer to the inevitable question regarding the rankings could have been better.  He got a little defensive.  I think the other professors and students handled it better: the rankings are immaterial if you are happy at your school, you're doing well, and you're getting the jobs you want.

On the whole I'm ecstatic to be going to Miami, as everyone knows.  I think it's an awesome place and I think I'll do really well there.  The kids who participated on Friday were all well-accomplished and had a lot of insight to offer.  Then again, these are obviously the students who go the extra mile.  I'm sure there are others that float through their 3 years and get nothing out of it, but you'll find that anywhere.  It was obvious to me that there is a LOT to be gotten out of the Miami experience if you so choose.

Hope that helps!  I'd be happy to elaborate if you're curious about anything in particular!

I went to the ASD and I was very happy with what I saw. I definitely think Miami is the right school for me. Everyone seemed really welcoming and interested in what they were doing. I even asked the current students how they maintained their grades and they explained that there were many opportunities that provided support for their students. They also added, however, that you didn't have to be top 5-10% to land your ideal job. They stated that many of their classmates had secured internships/jobs that were exactly what they were looking for even though their rank was not as high as they would have wanted.

I'm excited! I'm sending my seat deposit today.  ;D
