Can't exactly do any of this ish from work (besides order the laptop, hence my previous question). But thanks for the link and your attempt at a helpful response.

EDIT: do you have any study aid preferences (by course)?

can't remember which thread but: Examples and Explanations especially for K was the general consensus.  The cards by Aspen Publishers for all subjects particularly civ pro and K.  LEEWS (www.leews.com) is something that I'd like you to look into.  If $$ is an issue, get the primer it's $30.  Getting to Maybe is a very good look as well.  (Glannon's and Finals were two other names that popped up)

This stuff may be on the 1L thread but you'll have to do some digging.  However, I feel like I need to warn you guys...do not get into the supplement war!  I did, lol.  What that is basically is the phenomenom that many 1Ls get sucked into where they see their friend with one supplement and they go run to the store and get the same one -even if they have 3 supplements already.  Supplements are just that...additional/supplmental reading.  There's one supplement for K that I want you guys to order but I forgot the name...I'll repost when I get home later on tonite.

I think a good idea would be to have the supplement open while you are reading the case.  Doesn't really matter which supplement..it's all about the style you like.  Personally, I like getting other ppl's outlines and adding my own spin to it as I read the cases.   Why?
because sometimes the cases do not go thru all the elements-  they may only talk about 1 or 2 so it's best to have something else that covers the area.  Use classes as review..not learning.  Write down the questions the prof asks.

Getting to Maybe is a very good look as well.

How big of a help was it on exams? Do you think it offered substantially more help than basic prep?

It's all I use.  The outlining function (i.e., bulleted outlines) is far more sophisticated than Word's.

Actually it was a real help (except I got my hands on it kinda late).  It lets you know some of the pitfalls and kinda focuses you more than I think basic prep would.  For instance it tells you what to look for in deciding whether the professor is talking about commonlaw vs. some statute and what to look for during class that would help you determine what the prof wants on that issue.

congrats on making it thru.  Just remember: doesn't matter...grade may or may not be raised if you give good answers on a consistent basis.  All about the exam, try to get some practice ones.

i would strongly recommend the glannon examples and explanations for the first half of civil procedure.  unfortunately the thing didn't really help me for the second half of civpro (pleadings and such) but it sure as hell saved my life for the first half.

I also had great luck with the emanuel series.  I honestly wouldn't purchase these books until a few weeks into class.  speak to upperclassmen that had your specific professors and they'll give you much much better insight into which study aids are best for each prof.

PS: cute kid btw  :)

agreed for the most part although I found that sometimes when it comes to supplements it's better to trust ur own instincts.  When it comes to taking advice from upperclassmen make sure you get a spectrum because oftentimes, those that did well dont give up the goods.  Like every 1L gravitates toward the #1 2L, that person really may not know how to help other folk out.  You prolly won't know how well they did so make sure u ask more than one person.  Also, some professors are familiar with what supplements are out there.  This is both good and bad.  I had one professor that makes up bar questions but also has many supplements available for students.  She would call u out on it if u had it during class or u said something from it verbatim.  Leave 'em at home.

Also buying =/= necessary.  Send an email to your local BLSA prez to see what the members have.
