But I'm okay with it. I don't think I'm staying on there or Yale's. More room for you all!  ;)

Man, I felt so much better about my chance of getting in when I was the only person who had been waitlisted.  ;)

anyway, i know the first deadline is may 1st (tomorrow!) and i believe it's $500. not sure about any other deposit date...

Received the waitlist letter today.  Will definitely stay on.  I think SLS is still my first choice, but I've been embracing my HLS destiny since sending them $500.

SLS waitlists are blowing up on LSN. Looks like there will be just as many as last year. FYI: Waitlisted applicants last year had a 15.6% chance of being accepted.

hmph. on LSN, there are 62 waitlists now. of those, 12 have withdrawn. i'm no longer on LSN so you can add 1 to the number of WLs.

anyway, i wonder how they pick people from the waitlist. they say they choose people based on their desire to have a "balanced" class. what do you think that means? is that just code for LSAT/GPA combinations? how much do you suppose "soft" factors play a role, including geographic location, work experience, and UG?

Add me to the waitlist. Did anyone else find it odd that they did not include a return envelope with the letter, not an even unstamped one? Or did they just forget to put one in mine?

Also, are you guys sending extra materials or holding off?

Thanks

Hey Everybody,

Has anybody from our merry bunch heard anything yet?  It seems like in the past Stanford (according to LSN) Stanford starts accepting lots of candidates off the wait list in early June.  I'm just hoping and praying it happens to me...

Apparently they never received my withdrawal response form because a few days ago I got a letter from Faye Deal stating that due to my lack of response, they assumed that I no longer wanted to be considered for admission and so withdrew my application.  I wonder what would have happened had I called back immediately and said that I sent it back two weeks ago seeking to remain on the waitlist...  Aww well, California looks like it'll have to wait until I'm old enough to retire.

When I prodded them about when they expected waitlist decisions to be made, they wrote me back a generic email saying (it its entirety):

"The waitlist has the potential to remain open right up until the beginning of school.  We cannot predict how many (if any) applicants will be admitted from the waitlist."

Didn't sound too warm and fuzzy

Thanks for posting this email, Diecisiete.  You're right; this email tells us little beyond what we already knew in the wait list letter.  It find it very unusual that Stanford seems to be breaking with the LSN pattern of the last couple years: accepting tons of people off the wait list beginning in early June.  Maybe nobody's getting in this year...

Beats me; it seems odd because the longer they wait to accept people, the more inclined applicants are just to go somewhere else.

yeah. i've decided to be a die-hard follower of the stanford waitlist, staying on until the end. but... realistically, i know i can't keep waiting for good news from stanford that's never going to come. i've got to get an apartment (soon) for the law school that i'm likely going to be attending.

still, i want to keep my options open for as long as i possibly can, without losing apartment deposits/rent, and anything else.. just in case...

how are the rest of you proceeding?

I will be living at a dorm where I will go if I don't get into Stanford.  Fortunately, the dorm does not require a security deposit and there is no penalty for deciding not to enroll later in the summer.  So overall my situation is pretty stable.  It would make life much easier, though, to find out sooner rather than later.

I'm going to wait it out until the bitter end. I would incur a housing penalty-fee after July 1st, but it's really small money in the greater scheme of law school debt...

Hopefully they'll at least start letting people know before that point.

Unfortunately, I doubt they will.  I think Stanford's housing department only guarantees housing for incoming law students who apply for housing before May 1.  I am pretty sure there will be no space for us if and when we do come on board.

Has anybody else besides Dieciseite heard anything about whether Stanford's going to the wait list at all this year?

Didn't they WL, accept someone who declined a month ago? It stands to reason that they anticipated taking people off the WL at the time. Maybe they've received more deposits than they thought they would.

Called yesterday:
  • They haven't used the wait list yet
  • After prodding, the admissions officer noted that they would use it if they needed to (not a great sign that they will in a mass way)

I don't know - I still have confidence they will admit quite a few people this year off the wait list.  As diecisiete pointed out, they have been way behind where they usually are throughout this admissions cycle.

Not much movement here since the last post.

E - Maybe people aren't responding because they're being competitive, or maybe they're not responding because the answer is obvious.  With all due respect, I think it's fair to assume that most people have sent LOIs, etc.

yeah, i was just curious. i feel like i'm on the verge of stalking with all of the "continued interest" that i've shown and it would be (slightly) nice to hear that i'm not the only one still annoying stanford.

A few months ago, I submitted a LOCI.  On another subject, has anybody else noticed how curt the Admissions Office is in answering emails or phone calls?  I understand that they don't like applicants bothering them all the time, but it would be nice if they could at least make an effort to put on a happy face as other admissions offices (i.e., Michigan) do.

Of course there's a chance.  From what I know of Stanford's Admissions Office, there's little reason to think that one would be able to glean anything more from a phone call.

I don't know.  I'm having a really hard time deciding because I had everything set up to start Harvard in the fall and I'm not so good with changing plans last minute.

On the other hand, it's Stanford... And it's pretty and warm.

I just declined my offer to join the class of 2010.  Here's hoping someone else on LSD gets it.

Congrats on making a decision!  Both Stanford and Harvard are great schools - you can't go wrong with either one.

I'm with you guys on that, but the thought of having to break my lease and move twice makes somewhat sick to my stomach. At least Stanford starts a week earlier than my back-up school.

Don: given that Karin turned her offer down, there will probably be at least one more wl/accept.

Good catch, Max.  Here's hoping a few more acceptances come to LSD folks.

I was heading to NYU... Wow.

If anyone ever needed a tangible case to prove the existence of luck, give them my LSD name...

Congrats! What were your stats and what did you send them post WL if you don't mind my asking?

Anybody hear anything last week?  Any rumors going about whether Stanford is done with the wait list process?

If I recall correctly, there have been at least a few August wl/accepts in recent years on LSN, so all hope is not yet lost.

Anyone have the inside scoop? The admissions officers aren't always forthcoming.  Hope it's not closed!

With tuition due, how does it work for people who change right at the beginning of classes? Do they just eat the tuition or is it refunded? I guess it probably depends on the school?

All I know is that LSN suggests that a few people have already been rejected.  Those of you who were dropped from the waiting list: did the letter say anything besides the standard denial gobbledy gook?  Anything interesting about transferring?

And that's all folks, I'm officially dropping off the list.  Best of luck to the few stragglers remaining!

If I were you, I'd stay on through the first or second day of orientation.  Spots can open up at the last minute.

I'd like to, but unfortunately I just can't move out there at such short notice.

Just hop on a red-eye Don. It would make a cool story later in life.  :)
I want to stay on, and would do anything to stay in Palo Alto, the only thing is I wouldn't look forward to the headache of cancelling leases, transfering loans, moving back across the country, etc...would make a cool story though.

Agreed. You have to consider what will making such a jump will do to your ability to hit the ground running in September. The difference between a transcript with mostly A's and one with mostly B's is greater than that between say CLS and SLS as far as firms are concerned.

By the way, what does "bump" mean? I'm new at this.

Good luck!
