Title: Still Undecided?!
Post by: littlemisssunshine on April 02, 2007, 10:09:48 AM
I just wanted to say that it is so comforting to come on this board and see how many people are just as confused as I am over what school they are going to. I don't really have anyone in my life who's in the same situation. I get headaches everyday just thinking about it! So here's to all of you out there who are experiencing this with me.

Hang in there - that's what this site is for. I know exactly what you mean. Personally, I have the double pleasure (note the sarcasm) of being both undecided about where I want to go AND still stuck in the decision process of the cycle - I'm pending at 3, waitlisted at 4 (expecting some action off the waitlist) and admitted at 4 ... not to mention I still haven't heard anything from anywhere re: $$$

I know for me personally, it will likely go down to the wire ... that's just how I make decisions. So, in summary: It's okay! There's lots of people (or at least one other ... but I doubt we're alone in this  ;)) who are stuck being undecided!

Definitely not alone.  And I'm stuck in the cycle as well.  In at 2, W/L at 2, out at 2 (seeing a pattern??!)  And still haven't heard from 8!!

And...I'm now worried about $$$ as well...b/c I applied so late, and did my taxes so late (just finished my taxes on saturday), I haven't done the FAFSA yet...and the deadline already passed for most of the schools. Ugh.

I don't know anything about you, but it will be a privilege to watch Tim Teebow, the quarterback at UF.  So if you like football, two more years of that guy might just be a factor to consider.

Just like many things in life, it is so easy to figure out what I don't want to do (or where I do not want to go) but so much harder to figure out what I want to do (or where I want to go).

I couldn't have said it better myself.  I almost want to let my girlfriend make the decision for me.

I thought about this.  UF obviously has great sports, great weather, and relatively more attractive people.  Then i slap the *&^% out of myself when i begin to give these variables the same kind of consideration as say median salaries/bar passage rate/etc in where i want to study Law and eventually practice in.   UF's 75th percentile salary of 80g's just aint very appealing.

If you work hard, you'll make money wherever you go.  Go the place you think you'll enjoy, because nothing worse than trying work you're *ss off when you're miserable.

Uh, it sucks when it's a full 5 months after applying, and you're still not a single inch closer to knowing where you're going.

Hmm...yeah, I hear that, but the way I approach the average salary is, "I'm not average."  I do, however, appear below average, so this could seem confusing, but it's okay.

Amen! I've withdrawn from so many places, but just can't go the next few inches to a decision....

Ok, I'll make it for you. Go to the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. Done, now you can relax. :)

what schools are you considering?  we applied to a few of the same ones and i'm considering them.  ive gotten into miami and loyola-chi so far...and i still have to hear from santa clara, cardozo, and wisconsin.  if i were to get into all 5, i'd have a tough decision.

yeah you have a tough choice.  wustl's money is a lot.  i assume you did your undergrad at michigan?  i graduated there in 05.  but, i don't know about you.  if you lived in the state your whole life...well, i can't imagine staying there for 3 more years.  so for the people saying "go to michigan," i think it's a bit harder than that.  go see the rest of the country!  i would probably lean toward duke.  then again, in-state tuition is also enticing.  tough call really.  i would be freaking out.  haha.

Hahahaha.  Picking law school is just like picking dinner (this just happened to me)

Wife:  I am going to pick up dinner on the way home, What do you want?
Me:  I dont want Mexican, Italian, I had Chinese for Lunch, we ate Thai yesterday. Dang, I dont know.
Wife:  I have coupon from the BBQ place near the house.
Me:  OK.  We will go with that.

So, I went with cheaper and closer option, and I am leaning toward to cheap in-state school in the city I want to practice in.

That's a terrible idea.  Go to Duke or Vandy.  (Disclaimer: I'm waitlisted at UMich).

Ive been reminding myself that i will now be surrounded by intelligent people for 3 years instead of the joke that was undergrad so that I wont be shocked to discover that im average.  I dont expect to be in the top whatever and im using a worse case scenerio where ever i may end up.  thats another reason im not too fond of these conditional scholarship offers ive gotten.

Yeah man, what a panic of a two weeks this is fixing to be. I don't want to be that guy, but I think I might send in multiple deposits.

Actually I did my undergrad at State. I just simply dislike Ann Arbor...born and raised green I guess :) But yes I have lived in Michigan my whole life....I don't have anything against the state, but it's a huge hole to put myself in financially especially since I'm considering public interest work.

I'm still undecided, and just have had a third one thrown in to the mix.  Its great to feel wanted, but now I'm almost wishing my field had been cut down further so that I would just be forced to go to one.

I've been talking it over with a lot of my friends and family.... which is both good and bad. Everyone has their own thoughts on where I should go, for reasons based less on science or even feeling than their general perception of where they think I might fit in.  Needless to say, the 3 cities I'm looking at all have points racked up for them.

Like most, I want to say the final decision will come down to money.  But if I don't find out about all the pending scholarship stuff by D-day (deposit day) I might end up being the jerk I didn't want to be by having more than one deposit down.  I would just hate to say no to school, only to get a letter saying they will cover a good part of my tuition afterwards!

Ditto.  I still have 7 schools I'm waiting on, and I would probably go to 4 of them over the 2 I've been accepted to...so now I just have to decide between Penn State and Georgia State for which one to put my deposit down on...(leaning towards GSU)--unless I get a miraculous acceptance letter from one of those four other schools in the next week (but then, I'd be putting the deposit down for one of them, and still waiting for the other responses...)

I don't want to be "that guy" (or in my case, that "girl") either...but I don't see any way around it!

I've finally made up my mind.  I'm going to LA.  Loyola Law School it is....

Well, at least for now. Unless some miracle money from Miami jumps into my inbox in the next few days.  Odds of that... heh.

Add me to the undecided camp.  I thought I had decided, then my bf just got an interview for a different school.  Hopefully we find out if he's been accepted before deadlines are due...
